Crysis 2 Leaked

The platform is irrelevant.

Doubtful. Especially when it comes to a company like crytek who have bitched about the pc since the release of the original game. They even went as far to say that the patches were downloaded more times than the original game sold so everything over the official sales numbers must be a pirated copy. Clearly theyre never heard of people formatting or reinstalling and needing the patches again.

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been a very long time PC gamer and whilst the days of copying your mates specy games on a twin tape deck are far behind us, piracy has always been and always will be an issue for films, music & games to name a few. For anyone to think otherwise is only fooling themselves on some sort of moral high horse.

A number of things have accelerated the issue, the dawn of super fast broadband and torrents to name a few, there are more reasons. Some people claim no demo as the reason, so what I’m I meant to do they ask?
Read a review!
Don’t buy it!
Buy it and see!
But nothing justifies stealing something as that’s what you are doing!

But looking at the current highlight Crysis 2 out in the wild, whilst Crytek have some real points, they skim over the biggest one of all, "How it got out", the PC community are not some sort of rebel fleet going around the world breaking into offices and stealing things, this must have come out of their office and by their people.

To put that into a simple way, if you leave your car on the driveway the engine running and walk off, do you really think it’s going to be there when you get back? Who is really to blame the thief or the person for leaving the keys in? I know which one the insurance company would blame.

Whilst I would not say it’s a "nail in the coffin" it’s more like the six bullet in the gun and god to we hope its goes click and not bang, Think we need valve to take a stand right about now!

This leak for me is to cover up something bigger as this has to go down as the biggest balls up in history and makes the I-Phone 4 leak, look ”all back of the bus”. I would believe that Crytek have issues with the game, it's not ready and they know it, this leak will end one way in my mind, simply no crysis 2 on PC, they will take some moral high ground and say they would prefer to not sell anything on PC than allow the piracy to carry on with their products.

I will not be downloading this, nor will I buy it (if it even comes out on PC) until Crytek take back comments which in short, call’s all PC players thieves, it’s off the list in my eyes. I work in an industry that is plagued by piracy however we still turn out more profit each year, why? Simple we drive high customer service and deliver the best experience we can. Can they say the same?

My little thought on the matter i just hope as many of you don’t download it adding more fuel to the fire, after many years of the same old story, the finger for me should be firmly pointed at Crytek, simply a thief will do what a thief does, so you must do what you can to stop it, leaving it there unsecured is not the answer.

Jock, out!

There's often mass bannings of 360 consoles when they play a game that's leaked early. This completely removes that 360 from the online aspect forever unless they buy a new console. That's a deterrent that PC lacks, there's no repercussions for people that pirate it on the PC.

Clearly EA make enough money from the 360 despite piracy, or else they wouldn't be ignoring it and complaining about PC piracy. But then you seem to be acting as if it's some form of conspiracy to kill off PC gaming.

I'll humour this however, so go on, why are EA complaining about the PC leak and not the 360?

Well, I know quite a few people who have there 360 chipped and have been downloading loads of games for years and have been playing without any problems, and plus from what I have read, it isn't very expensive for getting the console chipped and is fairly easy to do it yourself making it even cheaper, plus nearly all PC games that are dll illegally can't be played online at all anyway, only SP can be.

So your telling me that your happy with ports from consoles? Especially the crap ones where you can't change keybindings, limited to 30FPS, poor textures, a proper settings menu for graphics and not just 1 option which gives you "low, medium, high" etc. as opposed to having a game that would work so much better, look a 10 times better if it where developed purely for PC.

And encase you haven't noticed:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18238222

Yet, we still always get blamed for piracy issues and it's not just by one developer/publisher, it's pretty much all of them.

Once half life 3 and BF 3, duke nukem etc. come out, which are purely developed for PC, the sales will be massive for them and then developers/publishers will realise there mistake, with all the ports from consoles to PC.

Plus have a read through this entire thread and other threads, also other websites, blogs, articles, heck practically all over the web and you will see that nearly all PC gamers are getting fed up with the blame, so you are in the extremely small minority who thinks that it is ok for us to get the blame and that where the only ones who download the games and that every single console owner buys them legally

Console thread is here, don't forget your coat ;):

Pre-release code might be interesting to freetards, hackers and possibly those who like to see game development stages, but imo releasing this code is just as stupid and pointless as the HL2 leak.

No one in their right mind would download an incomplete product if they just want to play the game itself or can't afford to buy it. It's like downloading those R5 film torrents - movie minus the sfx. What is the point?

how can they actually blame pc gamers for this is unbelievable.. i mean seriously NO ONE has access to those files except the employees of the CRYTEK they are to blame them selves for not securing it properly..

exactly

crytek only have themselves to blame when people download this !
its not been cracked, its not been pirated, its been made available because of a very very silly person at crytek or ea

is this actually piracy getting this ?? i dont think so,

would it be piracy getting a cracked version 1 hour after release, yes

So you are telling me that the proliferation of pirate software is not an issue to all platforms and that to start with a PC is usually required to obtain/create said pirate version? I am not commenting about the assertions of any developer, I'm commenting on the proliferation of pirate software and its ready adoption by many gamers or all ages.

As a Director of a software business (b2b not gaming) I feel honour bound to have no pirate software or media in my house, something I stand by no matter how easy/tempting it might be. I'm one of those sad gits who has lines and lines of shelves full of software, all nicely boxed, with manual etc, going right back to CPM days. Sadly this can't be said for the vast majority of PC users and gamers can it now? You reap what you sow in my book. Hopefully the medium by which this leak occurred will be identified and appropriate action will be taken. Such things while often being seen as 'cool dude' in the world of the user and gamer geek are sleepless night land in the eyes of the employer who is, in the vast majority of cases, simply trying to protect the interests of his business and the livelihoods of his employees.

It's always been the same, how many times did we hear as kids our parents say "if you can't play fair I will take your game away"? Modern technology simply allows the 'kids' to remove the parents (figuratively) and do as they please. Sadly I don't have the solution to the problem of piracy but if gamers can't see (or care) about the damage is causes they are shortsighted. This is one of the reasons why developers (not the only) don't really care about PC gaming these days, which to me is really sad. I appreciate games are often expensive, but if you can't afford something I was told to save not steal for that is what it is.

So you are telling me that the proliferation of pirate software is not an issue to all platforms and that to start with a PC is usually required to obtain/create said pirate version?

Show me where i said that. Im commenting on Cryteks reaction to this blaming pc gamers when the fact of the matter is someone at their offices leaked it out. Maybe they should stop flapping their gums about pc gamers and instead look at how it got out in the first place.

You don't 'chip' a 360 to hack it, but i'm not going to go into details as it's against forum rules. Again we're back to the point though, if piracy is so very easy and so very rife on the 360 as you claim, why don't developers and publishers care much? Why aren't they shouting to the rooftops about it as we constantly see about PC piracy? Have they just forgotten to make the press release?

So your telling me that your happy with ports from consoles?

At what point did i say this? I've not even made a comment that alluded to this.

And encase you haven't noticed:

In case

Have you actually READ the article linked in that post? The figures they use are incredibly sketchy with terms such as 'we've assumed x% of consoles have been left in the back of a cupboard', incredibly poor statistics. Also a huge, huge proportion of those profits will be from casual games such as popcap, a huge up and coming industry but something that 'big' game developers have little invested in. If you actually compare 'enthusiast' games i think you'll find that consoles will have the edge.

Yet, we still always get blamed for piracy issues and it's not just by one developer/publisher, it's pretty much all of them.

So it's the publishers that have added the tens of thousands of downloads of that torrent file then? Oh right.

Once half life 3 and BF 3, duke nukem etc. come out, which are purely developed for PC, the sales will be massive for them and then developers/publishers will realise there mistake, with all the ports from consoles to PC.

I bet you a million billion that Duke Nukem sells better on consoles and that developers will see no mistake.

Plus have a read through this entire thread and other threads, also other websites, blogs, articles, heck practically all over the web and you will see that nearly all PC gamers are getting fed up with the blame,

Maybe the blame would stop coming if millions of people around the world stopped actually, you know, downloading said pirated PC releases?

so you are in the extremely small minority who thinks that it is ok for us to get the blame and that where the only ones who download the games and that every single console owner buys them legally

Again, where have i said this?

Console thread is here, don't forget your coat ;):

Actually, and it seems apparent that unlike you, I am open minded enough to own, use and enjoy all gaming platforms. It's the only way to have access to everything gaming as a hobby has to offer. So i'll stay here ta. But i'll ask again, just in case you missed my question, why are developers not as fussed about console piracy if it's not because it's less of a problem? Conspiracy? Do they hate you?

I agree with this to an extent. For it to be leaked THIS early someone must have messed up big time. I'm sure they're having an internal investigation though, but i doubt the results or its existence will be published, very bad publicity.

How do you know it was leaked from their offices?

Might have been via a pressing plant
Might have been via a rogue carrier transferring stuff between locations
Might have been via some close press contact having a pre-release view
Might of course have been Crytek and probably most likely

Compliance and security is a hard task and catering for that one rogue is sadly a losing game in most companies, mitigating risk is about as close as you can get. To lay it totally on the shoulders of the community of PC gamers is of course harsh, we can agree on that, but when the ship was wrecked by the drunk captain the people came to the beech and lapped up the booty...

of couse it was, saves them making anything else for the platform next time as it was pirated weeks before release !

thats going to be the reaction

Do you honestly think such a cover story is needed to make such a business decision? Wow.

Piracy is just as bad as it is on the PC for the consoles, plus also is there not a leak of the 360 game as well?

So if the 360 version did get leaked as well and dll by loads of people they should address that to them as well and not just us all the time

EDIT:

Plus the fact that it was obviously someone from there end who did this on purpose.

Where do you get your facts from?

Piracy is much worse on PC.

That chart you keep referring to is useless and totally random.

The leak could have come from anywhere, probably some retarded game reviewer or something.

why not, saves ******* us all off by them saying were are pulling out of pc games
why not leak it, and let us spoil it for ourselves

So you honestly believe that EA invested millions of dollars in Crytek to develop a game purely to leak it early to give PC gamers a bad reputation?

Trust me, they don't care about your delicate feelings. If they wanted to stop developing for the PC, they'd just stop.

Well its apparently watermarked as some point as an internal use only build. So it really falls on their shoulders that they lost sight of it and it got leaked. People are downloading it yes, but after the shoddy performance of the first game this by all accounts seem to run much better. Maybe that will swing things in cryteks direction? Hard to say but if the performace is upto snuff hopefully people will buy it instead of pirating it.

Ive been around a few forums and most people seem to be pleasently suprised at the screenshots doing the rounds especially considering its dx9 mode.

I`m sorry but you got a logic of a 5 year old please unplug your internet now.

I was about to respond, I think you read my mind......which scares me as I had evil thoughts about Megan Fox and Katy Perry earlier, hope you weren't present for that.;)

ok i understand that
so how do you think its found its way onto the web then

Disgruntled employee
Press copy
Closed beta tester
Office cleaner

Take your pick.

Obviously though, those four possibilities are just insane and totally unfounded, it's obviously EA leaking it to avoid upsetting PC gamers when they dump them like a cheap hussy after a one night stand.

Or an outsourced testing company.
