Hello there.

Well my friend has just got 2 new puppies and they're as cute as cute can be.

But they have a kind of weird skin thing (I've never had dogs so I dunno if this happens)

It kinda looks like cross between a tiny (maybe 1cm²) patch of dry flaky skin and and a super thin scab. And it's on both of them so I'm thinking that ...
a) This is normal for puppies to sometimes has a bit of flaky looking skin
or
b) Its something one of their parents had.

Either way it doesn't seem to be causing either of them discomfort, but I just thought I'd ask around a bit before suggesting vet visits and all accompanying bills.

If there are any concerns about the puppies health then they should be taken straight to a vet! Although it may be something trivial as a rash, who's to say it isn't the beginning of something more serious?

:) I can assure you they're brand new ones !!
Heheh

Anyway, here's a pic of the offending area.
Although to be honest, the pic makes it look far worse than it looks in real life.

Is this... "scurf" then ?

Well if I was back in good ole Blighty I probably would suggest the vet straight away.... but being in China where pet care is generally not very high up on many lists, I'd like to keep them away from places where other ill pets are hanging out in god knows what conditions.

They're like only 2 months old, I don't think it would be good to expose them to other ill animals yet..... I think...

With you being in China I wouldn't like to say what that could be, scurf is more like heavy dandruff, it can get patchy but the pic of your dog doesn't look like scurf to me, but maybe that's Chinese scurf? What I'm trying to say is, China's diseases, parasites and mites etc. will be totally different to what we would get in the UK/Europe, best bet is a Vet, specially with new Puppies as they can be very, very susceptible to things that may prove fatal to them as opposed to an older dog, don't want to worry you but things can turn very bad for young puppies very quickly :(

I apologise I didn't notice your location Moonpie2, animals out their are below a crisp packet when it comes to giving a **** unfortunately.

Generally yeah :(
There's lots of things to like here, but their attitude to animals isn't one of them.

Well I guess we can look for a clean and reputable vet and I'm sure my friend wouldn't mind paying above the odds for a genuine and thorough check-up !!

Try to get 'em to a vet; can't tell which breed but if it's a Westie, they are prone to eczema and skin other diseases.

Indeed they are Westies :)

Happy to hear it 'might' be something as simple as a bit of eczema, and hopefully maybe bledd can shed some good news on this too !!

Cheers dudes.

Westies are quite prone to skin conditions, especially skin mites. Might be worth reading up on the condition. My nans dog had it and it got really out of hand very fast.

Our westie kept having flaky/scabby skin mostly down his back. The vet gave us some sort of anti-bacterial shampoo. Had to bath him a couple of times a week for a while but it eventually cleared up

Lol some people really surprise me.

Asking on a computer forum about a puppies health.

Just take them to the vet, but it really makes me worry what they are going to be like if anything serious happens.
