Hi guys

I have a 6950 flashed to a 6970 but every time i try to run bad company 2 on all out maximum settings i get really bad stutters in the game especially at the start it jumps down to 4 FPS for about 3 seconds then back up to 60 until i run into some action then about 45 FPS. I do have vsync enabled. I thought this card is more than capable of running this game at maximum settings ?

Iv also tried it on counter strike source on all out maximum settings and the game seems a bit choppy. Heaven is reporting back high of 54 FPS with a score of 1460 ish.

I have the latest drivers installed. Running at 1920 x 1080

AA = Application controlled
AA Mode = Adaptive Multi Sample
AF = Application controlled
Texture Filtering Quality = Quality
Vsync = Off unless application specifies
Enable surface format is ticked

Any ideas or thoughts or is this normal ?

Just to add when my FPS started to drop the CPU fan sounded like it was dropping in speed too then back up again.

I play BC2 with a 6950 (albeit only shaders unlocked and then overclocked) and my system is only an old Q6600 and I don't have any problems whatsover, framerate never goes below 45 fps and I have got everything on high. I never get those framerate drops like you do though.

The Heaven score looks about right though.

Have you tried using it as a stock 6950?

Try flicking the bios switch and seeing if you still get the same problem with the original BIOS. could be ur card isnt stable as a 70

Can you actually change many settings for BC2? I have just set mine to high in the options menu but see no sign of ajusting things like aa etc. I am really suprised at the performance of your 6950 matey thought it would be able to run the game no worries. I have a 5850 OC to 810/1100 and get 60fps most of the time apart from the odd drop in big battles to around 45fps. I have
d3d overidder on which i think really does help

Iv just set my CPU back to stock with all bios settings as default too and still the same. Im on a 750w Corsair Modular PSU that should be able to handle 2 cards in crossfire i think so i doubt its the power ?

Many thanks for your thoughts so far but im running out of ideas now.

Theres some settings you didnt list like

Morphologial filtering. Enabled or diabled.
And there should be a filter box below where u can select edge detect with sample rate and catalyst AI settings

Maybe try set all settings to low that cant be set Application controlled then test. And if that doesnt work then try setting then AA setting on BC2 menu to low.
Id test but i sold my 6950 but all settings on high on my gtx 480 gives no problems so it shouldnt either for a unlocked 6950

If you look at 6970 reviews in bc2, at 1920x1080 4xaa / 16xaf / max details it's gets an average fps of around 60 & a minimum of around 40.

With vsync enabled, the minute you go below 60fps you're framerate will effectively half, so turn it off to reduce the stuttering.

If you have to have it on because you hate tearing, lower the settings slightly - turn of hbao for a start.

Thank you :)

Iv obviously been running the settings too high for my card and resolution. You just saved me selling my card on a well known auction site as i was beginning to think it was messed up lol.

Just tested with those settings and its running smooth no stutters other than on the 1st instant of joining an already playing server and it stutters on the main camera but after that gameplay is fine :)
