Vegas!

So you really have no idea why we are allowed to discuss a hotel in Las Vegas but not allowed to discuss a competing computer shop? Really?

Thats not quite what I ment to say, badly worded I realise now! Antec make a case with a very similar name to the vegas hotel which is what I tried to sell!

My wife and I stayed in the Bellagio in 2008, great hotel and we got a good rate at the time. Tipped the check-in clerk $10 and he gave us a room facing the fountains :D

Buffet breakfast was expensive though :(

I'm going at the start of October for a week and can not wait. Its been about 10 years in the making :D

Were booking next week, but to be honest, were still lost as to where to stay and who to book through. We want central - thats as far as we have got :D

I think last time I was asking on here about who to book through, bookit came up as a good choice. Think rotty suggested it. Is this still the case?

Any other good places to check? Lastminute seems pretty cheap, but I know nothing :)

So, there you go. Where do we stay thats central, and who do we book through. Help. Please. So much choice makes me a saaaad penguin

Thanks

the place with the Hummer off road course and the Corvettes on the track has closed

re the cash, work out what you think you need, double it and make sure you have loads more in reserve, seriously

this ++++

Didn't take nearly enough and effectively ran out, in as much as we had to budget the last few days and didn't get to do all we wanted to do.

It's not so bad, we''l just go back again and do the stuff we didnt do, but i'd definitely back up what Rotty is saying.

Just search for Vegas threads and take special notes of posts by Rotty, he is the man for Vegas Hotel advice.

I loved the Platinum, but it is 2 blocks East of the centre (Flamingos/Paris). Still walkable in 10mins and the rooms are sublime for the money!!!

Cheers for that :)

I've found this map:

vegas-strip.jpg

So the center will be classed as somewhere between the highway 15 sign (if thats what it is) and the showcase mall - whatever that is :) Is that about right?

Has anyone booked through bookit lately?

Actually, has anyone booked within the last month and if so where from?

I've been told it might be best to wait until 3 months before departure before booking to save a bit of cash. Is this really necessary, or are we talking about a £50 saving? I kinda want it booked so that it becomes 'official' and I can start saving / applying for credit cards :)

Thanks

I always class the centre as the Bellagio, Caesers, Bills, Ballys junction ( junction of strip and flamingo )

I booked about a week ago, flight prices are absolutely horrible, top side of 700 for economy, I normally go Premium but this year have booked Econ out  and premium back, was £845 for flight all in

hotels usually get cheaper nearerthe time but flights usually go up, I usually book flights early, make a cancellable hotel booking as a failsafe and then keep monitoring room prices

Hmmmm, might put up my USA trip thread later with pics, so keep an eye out. All this talk is bringing the memories back in force :D

Centre would be the intersectaion around Bellagio, Ballys and Caesars.

Map doesn't look right as the Platinum is on the corner of an intersection and that map has it as 1.5 blocks back rather than 2. Also take note that Blocks in Vegas are pretty massive and will take longer to walk that you think. We walked into the central area from The Platinum then down to the MGM Grand and 'The Hotel' @ Mandalay bay it took 1.5hrs along with some picture and look around stops. Plus you have to dodge all the people walking around.

Pics from the Bar at the top of 'The Hotel' @ Mandalay Bay. Well worth the trip for Sunset. We also had a cracking lightening storm coming in from the mountains in the East to watch.

I have put an arrow on to show you the distance to the platinum ;)

the Platiunum is the wrong side of Tuscany on that map, Platinum is great for the money, isn't it ?

1 block surely, it is on the juntion of Flamingo and Koval

If you're going to Strat, then check out the mini themepark at the top. A few rides there including a roller coaster and a drop tower. It won't appeal to everyone though - you need a good stomach for heights as you'll be exposed and out on the top of the building.

Nice pics

You can keep your countryside and rolling hills views, cityscapes are for me

So far, to keep it sub £750 - which is the magical number we have picked to call our budget, I've found the Luxor and the Excalibur. Thats for a 7 night stay, on the 5th of October. A wednesday, so we have the weekend in the middle of our trip

Sound fair? Thats using bookit and thats the only place I have looked at so far

I stand corrected :)

I counted Audrie Street (half way down Flamingo Road) as the split between 2 blocks.

Also highly recommend 'Roys' restaurant just East past the Platinum along Flamingo. A short hop in the House Car for some cracking food and the best service we have ever had whilst eating out. Nom nom!

Very impressed by it and it was completely YOUR fault that I told the Mrs we were staying there and not on the Strip. As ever her moaning turned around to happiness once we got to the Platinum. We strictly only had a 1/2 strip view as we were on the North Side but it wasn't worth complaining about as we were normally just sleeping and pre-lashing a little whislt getting ready before going out, so the view was normally a blur anyway.

baring in mind current flight prices that's a fair price, Luxor the better of the 2 hotels, neither are great but not awful either

Luxor is miles away from the centre.

I would recommend Planet Hollywood as a place to hang out gambling. Cracking location and great inside for us younger, hip people :D

Rooms there looked quite nice from what I remember from my research.

PH is very good but I doubt it's in his budget, for a good location on a budget Ballys and Bills are a good bet ( north tower at Ballys )

£980 per person for the PH on the same dates

Thats a fair chunk more I suppose. Doubt I could convince the others to be honest :(

Does look amazing though

Hmmmmmmm

I stayed in Ballys when i went last year. £180 for a week and i got an upgrade when i tried the $20 trick. I thought it was great central location. Nearly killed me when i walked from ballys to mandalay bay to stratoshere and back to ballys in one day!

The stratosphere end of the strip was a bit scummy (and i got married opposite there!)

Really want to go again we barely saw half the things we wanted to in a week.
