dog bite...

id go for a chat with the owner , maybe he should muzzle it before opening the door. then if he is old and unable to stop it getting away with its lead then at least it cant hurt someone. offer other suggestions

i personally dont think its right for it to be destroyed because of a mistake made by an old man on his own. he just needs educating on how to prevent it happening again

I once got bitten by a Police dog Labrador whilst walking to school, the dog just walked up to me whilst on a leash and bit my knee cap, I yelped in pain but the policeman just said "oh he does that sometimes, will just be a nip though". I got to school, leg covered in blood, and later had to get a tetanus shot and some butterfly stitches. Went back to police station on way to school next day, spoke to same policeman, he said not to pursue any action as my dad may lose his car etc etc. Scared the life outa me at 13 so left it there. Bar Stewards!!! Still annoys me 20 years on

sometimes biting it back actually works lol ( alpha male thing)

not from past experience seen someone do it to there rotty when training it.

whippet attack how rare is that :D

Evening everyone - Sooo, I'm a burglar, and yesterday morning whilst casing a house, a dog escaped and bit me on my inner leg - very close :P
Every morning the dog (I think it's a greyhound/whippet sort of thing) is in the owners window, barking, snarling and basically trying to get out. Yesterday, halfway down the guys drive, I saw the door opening - next thing the dog was at me, i pushed it away with my swag bag but then when I turned to get away it bit me..

Try looking at things from a different perspective. You can't expect a dog to know the difference between an intruder or a milkman/postman/paperboy etc etc.

It's not the dogs fault. It's the owners and I would certainly sue him however also be aware that it is likely the dog will also be destroyed through no fault of it's own.

Seriously read and take note of what I say below.

If this dog charges at you again clench your fist and strike it on the nose as hard as you like. A foot in it's face or even up its backside will also have it running a mile back into the house.

This dog has already harmed you, you are well within your right to defend yourself from a dog which is uncontrollable.

The real problem is the owner as he is unable to control his dog.. I would have went bloody mental at him and flipped out.

Do your rounds a per normal but think about what I have said as the owner has a dog which is out of control.

Edit: And yes... take the owner to cleaners.

We have a greyhound, if the one that bit you is it is likely to be from the greyhound trust. So I would report the incident to them. Greyhounds that are re-homed settle in very well, and I wouldn't think that one would bite anything.
But yeah I would try and get some money also!

I think it is your own fault, you clearly forgot to carry your trusty keyboard with you on your paper rounds.

generally intruders are intruding when they're inside the house though? and people outside the house are not, in fact, intruding?

anyone who trains a dog in this country to think a person who is just on their front path or driveway or comparable area is a hostile intruder needs to realise that they're training their dog to be destroyed.

if the dog has bitten 3 people it's dangerous next time the person may not be so lucky, do you really want to read in the papers about some child who has it's face torn to pieces knowing you had the chance to have it destroyed?

Exactly. The owner knows that the dog likes to bite people and should have had it retrained after the very first incident.

Hire the Dog Whisperer for him :).

Dog is showing dominant behavior, you are not, you OWN the dog, ( even though you don't), ROAR at it :D. Otherwise prod it in his/her neck :D.

As others have said, you must think of the consequences of not doing anything. It could be that a young child is left mangled and/or killed if you just ignore that.

I'm quite concerned that the dog in question is notorious for biting people, yet the owner hasn't done anything about it.

Biting people on his own property is different to biting people in the street. Some dogs are very very teratorial. My old german shepherd was the same, really agressive to the point where the milk man used to get the money off my dad in the pub rather than knock on the door.

Although not condoning the guy for letting his dog be like, just trying to give another perspective.
