I'm fascinated by other people's behaviour - you could say I'm a bit obsessed :D

When I've had the misfortune of staying overnight at a hostel I noticed that some of the residents would take two glasses of juice with their breakfast. I assumed this was because they had some kind of points system on their breakfast allowance.

In the canteen at work, however, a large number of people take two plastic cups of water with their lunch. This can only be because they are too lazy to get up and fill it up again. I genuinely find this very strange when there are two taps dispensing cold filtered water up there and no more than 3-4 metres away. Why would you use two cups when one suffices?

I pointed this out to a colleague and he mentioned (completely seriously) that it was because they don't want to get up and have people look at them walking to the water dispenser.

Seriously?

I've known people to do the 2 drinks thing but it's always been more down the laziness than anything.

Your colleagues sound pretty self conscious, fatties?

Hmm if i drink water i drink it by the pint and generally in 1 long glug so id take 2 or 3 little plastic cups if i wanted to... as for refilling it... its annoying to fill>drink>fill>drink and stand there with a queue forming behind you..

Maybe its considered ***** to drink water ? Not sure what fatness has to do with it though?

I used to get 2 cups of water, mainly because 1 cup wasn't enough and it seemed a bit pointless in wasting that time to get back up again and walking to get another cup of water.

I guess you would find my beverage preparation habits to be quite strange, too. I make myself a cold drink when I make tea/coffee. I drink the cold drink first, then drink the hot drink once it's cooled. I don't do it at home, though, just at work.

Now that I'm thinking about it, the other thing that I do at work that could be considered strange is take my shoes off. I've only ever known two other people to do it; a guy I worked with in my last place, and my uncle.

I'd get two glasses. Simply because there is no point getting one, sitting down drinking it then having to get up straight away to get another one. It isn't because I'm lazy, it is just more efficient.

I would think it would be more frowned upon to stand next to the dispensing machine and drink from a cup and refill it straight away.

I'd never really thought of them that way before, but it appears they are :D

But you've still got to stand there and fill>take another cup>fill>take another cup>fill. What difference does it make? What a waste of cups for a start.

My boss does this everytime hes at the office and out floor isnt exactly clean...the funniest thing is that he has holes in his socks lol...but its pretty weird of him to do that...thankfully he doesnt have smelly feet or else id be telling to him to sort it out:p...i only take my shoes off when im at home.

Do they down the first cup? Then drink normally from the second. If so don't see anything wrong. Although this would usually be in a physical job or hot environment.

Why would it be frowned upon? It's what the water dispenser is there for!!!

I’ve taken two cups of water because I don’t want to get up from my lunch and would like to carry on my conversation with colleagues. It's not a restaurant where I can summon a waiter for more. There's nothing strange about it.

They should down the first cup there and then, then refill.

Won't somebody think of the er... tree's? wait, not that's not right.

I had two cups of water with lunch today, purely because the cups at the water machine are too small, and I would easily finish the cup in 2 or 3 gulps.

Why should they?
If they want to sit down then why not. As well as the fact loads of people on brake at the same time and a que. Faster allround to take two.

People do that where I work - tho due to the nature of their work its a bit more relevant - down first cup in one go then drink normally from the other. I usually just fill up a bottle myself tho.

You could hold everyone else up while you fullfil your thirst.

To me it would appear greedy if someone was helping themself and drinking at the same time, the same reason I wouldn't walk around a buffet and eat as I take food. You take what you want to your table and eat/drink it there.

Yes it is wasteful for the cups, I agree. Give people bigger cups and it wouldn't happen.
