Somewhere in the middle.
Always seeing external hard drives getting cheaper in stores and internal ones are cheaper again. Many people here have at least 1tb these days.

Game installs take up quite a lot now, but barely 100gb for average people.

Music and movies are pretty much the only way I see to utilise this space.

Is there actually legitimate uses for a 1tb external hard drive beyond carrying movies about?

Dunno if there is much of a discussion here but it seems most people I know fill drives with movies or music. And id question if its above board :)

Of course not. Unless you are rich and rip all of your songs and movies that you bought and save them as a 'backup' ;).

I find it funny how internet is getting faster and faster these days but always wonder why anyone who doesn't warez would care? An 8mb connection is fine for streaming youtube, going on facebook and twitter. Having a 50mb connection only means you want to download a ton of media.

My family pc has a 120gb HDD, and they have been using it for years and have only used up 40gb. I have 3tb's and I am thinking of buying another TB.

:/

I like to have every game I've ever owned installed on the pc despite not playing them all. However 1.2tb isn't enough :(

I could easily record and write a ton of music and fill a terrabyte hard disk.

In fact I've almost filled a second 500GB hard disk with music I've written/sampled etc.

Video and photo editing takes up a huge amount. That with games + music and its very easy to fill up that much space.
Hell my programs folder has been over 100Gb in the past.

My steam install is about 900gig, iTunes library - all 100% legal is about 750gig ish - I have around 1TB of uncompressed recordings of game footage with fraps as well - tho I don't need to keep all of those.
