Sony readies the Ban Hammer

I just don't see the point in playing online if someone is going to cheat. It makes playing and earning rewards, Xp, unlocks etc totally worthless and ruins the game for everyone.

And yeah, as I said I hate scumbag stealing pirates and am glad they will be banned. If they can afford a Ps3 they can afford to buy games for it. I believe in supporting the devs who spent years of time, money and effort in making the great games I am playing and the excuse that they were "never going to buy the game anyway" doesn't wash with me I'm afraid as at the end of the day they are still playing a game that costs 40 quid for free and whichever way you look at it thats stealing and is no different from stealing it from a shop.

Sorry to be blunt as it were, but those are just my thoughts on the matter.

some people are reporting being banned already, but then they could be lying!

It wouldn't surprise me if they sent out that email then give it a month then ban you anyway even if u did update to the latest OFW.
 
Have to LOL at all the people saying OMG CHEATERS111!!!!.

You do realise that most of the COD series cheats actually have nothing to do with the PS3 itself being hacked, and everything to do with flaws in the actual game code...

Exactly, just people jumping to assumptions... ZOMG JAILBREAK CHEATERS !!!ONEONE, totally forgetting that MW2 and the previous CoD games were hacked way way before the jailbreak and like you said, exploiting things in the actual game code!
 
I won’t profess to say I know the full ins and outs of COD cheating, or even the recent PS3 jailbreaking etc…. I’m just saying that playing online with anyone that cheats regardless of how they obtain this ability is a bit wrong. Spoils it for genuine players who really enjoy playing against human opponents..

Cheating is cheating regardless of how you do it, it always has and always will happen.. Sadly to say. It is a shame when you spend £30 + upwards for an online game only to be whipped by someone using code that they shouldn't be..

I do support whatever steps are taken to try and combat it.... But i don't know enough to pass full judgement etc, and sorry if I'm doing just this.. Lets be friends..!!:p
 
I'll hold my hand up and confess to installing CFW on my PS3, but last week decided it was pointless for me so installed OFW 3.56 and removed all homebrew packages/apps.

Hopefully this satisfies Sony and my account/console won't be banned from PSN.

No, I just hate cheaters in any game on any platform as it renders the game pointless and no fun whatsoever for everyone else who is playing.

That fair enough, I don't think many people will argue with that. But this thread is about Sony sending threats/bans for running CFW and 'unauthorised' software on the PS3, the problem of cheating is a separate and unrelated issue.

Not really, Unauthorised software is opening the flood gates for cheating, whether the current cheating on Call of duty is related or not is an elephant.

CFW and game modding would go hand in hand no question, but obviously not now, as they will be banned if they connect to PSN with mods in place. So yay
 
From what I hear, Black ops and MW2, You're lucky to join a game without it. And its a bit of a russian roulette aswell, because some of the cheating can result in your stats being altered. Either maxing your out right away or reducing you back to level 1. Which I'd hate either way. But this isnt CFW related. The games have been altered in others ways
 
Whichever way you look at it, the implications of tempering with the Ps3 are obvious. Its either to run pirated software, cheat, or use "homebrew" which I've never understood why anyone would want to run on a Ps3 when there are tens of thousands of free programs avaliable on your more powerful(unless you've got an old rig)P.C.

I'm not saying every single person who uses Cfw is a hacker or pirate, but the vast majority are and I would sooner be connected to an online service which is secure knowing these people cannot get on it than a service which is wide open to people using malicious programs to cheat, or steal personal details.

They knew full well what they were doing when they modified their console, and they only have themselves to blame if they are banned.

Played COD last night and out of about 10 games I did come across one or two hackers.
