I am now the proud owner of an Intel i7 2600 3.4GHz CPU and a lovelly little Crucial 64GB Drive. I am planning on getting 2 x 4Gb of Geil 1600MHz RAM but cannot decide on a motherboard:(

I am not a gamer and use my pc for Photoshop, Net & Online Poker and obviously don't intend overclocking.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the P8P67 Standard, Pro or Deluxe Motherboards and what Mobo would you choose/advise.

Thanks in advance, an exited tech iliterate;)

and remember not to plug any drives into the 3gb SATA ports, only use the 6gb SATA ports.

The deluxe also has 2x eSATA 3GB/s ports, and the pro and deluxe have SLI. All three have crossfire, so if you're not planning to use SLI, or those eSATA ports, then there's probably no point paying more for something you'll never use.

If you're not into gaming or overclocking then perhaps the P67 boards may be overkill. The H67 boards offer onboard graphics and faster video encoding whilst also being cheaper.

if you have the standard 2600 and not the overclocking 2600k then there isn't really any point getting a p67 board surely? You would be better off getting an h67 board i think.

Thanks chaps

I see the H67 boards only have 2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports and the extra 2 that the P67 boards have would be useful for data storage drives etc.

Can anyone tell me what eSATA ports would be used for and what SLI is/means please?

SLI and Crossfire are a multi graphics card setup used by gamers to increase performance in games. Basically allows 2 or more cards to work together in tandem.

Esata is used by some external hard drives, but must most use USB

Thanks MeatLoaf much appreciated. Thats made my mind up now, I'll go for the P8P67 Standard Motherboard.

Just need a reasonable graphics card for around £50 - £70 (ish) now and I will be ready to go :)

If you're not gaming, consider some of the cards in the £30-50 price range. There are silent versions available in this range which is worthwhile considering as the fan on most cards is quite loud.

I gotta a ati 5670 for about £60 (prob be able to get it cheaper if you look) till I could afford a dearer one and that runs pretty well, but if you are not interested in a gaming gpu why not save money and get an H67 mobo. The H67 boards allow you to use The inbuilt graphics card on your 2600 which is comparable to a £30 - £50 card, the H67 boards are also cheaper than the P67 boards so it is doubly cheap :)

If youre not a gamer then personally id get a decent H67 boarda and use the built in GFX of the 2500K processor. Its certainly on par with the chepo GFX cards.

you can always buy a pci sata 6gb card later when you need one. Gotta say I'm a bit impartial about the asus p8p67 boards cause I've gone thru 2 now which have broken, now I've gotta see if I can Rma my latest broken one. Hopefully I can get a different brand this time

worked fine at first, now will not even get to bios. tried to clear bios and eliminate addon but no joy. Definatly last time I buy ASUS. Check this forum there are loads of people had probloms with them.

Thanks chrisarm. I have had ASUS in my last 3 PC's and never had a problem. Before that I had Gigabyte and that was a disaster. I guess it's the luck of the draw at the end of the day. My current board is an ASUS P5B and it’s been great (touch wood) hence I have gone for the ASUS P8P67 this time. I will keep my fingers crossed now though. All that said I never overclock my boards as I am not a gamer so they don’t get much hammer. Good luck with your next board mate, I hope it all goes well, Cheers.

I'd say go for the gigabyte one. I've been using gigabyte for years and they've been very stable, bought a p8p67 pro and I've had all kinds of problems with it from bad drivers causing blue screens to it just not POSTing half the time :/

I'm suprised they even let them through quality control. So many people are having issues with this board.
