On the road....
Was involved in an RTA this morning, without going into too much detail, a car aquaplaned across my bows as such & was then collected by my truck.

Not too nice, nobody hurt bar some serious shock on the part of the cars passenger. (It scared the **** out of me too!)

My question is, why are Helphire leaving me messages wanting "To hear my side of the story" - I have ,as of yet, not responded to the voicemails (I missed the calls due to driving) and am inclined to direct them toward my insurers.

The car driver & passenger were quite clear that they had hit me & the Police were the ones who mentioned aquaplaning.

So I am very glad to say that I am not being held responsible, that said, the 800yd walk from my parked truck up the hard shoulder to what I thought was the scene of a death caused ,perhaps by me, was the longest walk of my life.

The relief to see two shaken but otherwise unharmed (& damn lucky!) car occupants , I cannot put into words.

Within 4 hours of the incident, the calls started from HH..... A bit keen or what?

Cheers. :)

Helphire seems to imply that they are suggesting you were at fault. I mean, what use do companies like Helphire have, otherwise? I'm pretty sure they only deal with those that are not at fault.

This is what I'm assuming, (although how I am at fault if a car slides into me, I don't know!)

I was initially wondering if they were insured by some division of HH, clearly not.

No prob's, I'll direct them toward my insurers & let them sort it out.

Possibly just an initial enquiry by helphire, they only take on clear cut cases don't they?

They're possibly just phoning to see if they get a 'yeah, all my fault, here are my insurers details' response or 'hang on a minute jack, something is afoot here' in which case they'll either take it on or tell the 'claimants' they're not able to help.

Yup, utterly useless when somebody wrote off the wifes car in a head on. Bloke was on the wrong side of the road but HH wouldn't do anything as the guy hadn't admitted liability yet.

Don't know much about help hire other than I ended up in civil court due to someone trying to say an accident was my fault...

I assumed they were some shady no win no fee company with a hire service bolted on.

I won the court case and the person claiming was left with a 3.7k hire bill and fees...

i think this is what they are looking for.

The person you ran into is trying to use helphire. Obviously their first step is to see if the other persona admits liability to check if its worth them proceeding with the case.

They're trying to see if you'll say its your fault. I think you should be alright to tell them it wasn't your fault, but check with your insurance company who they should speak with as you say.

I thought you were a driver for Eddie Stobart? Do you own your lorry or have your own insurance or something? I would have thought all calls would be directed to your company and they'd deal with it?

Yeah, Helphire will only be seeing if its going to be an easy case to win, I've used a similar company twice, first time they took the case on and I had brilliant service, second time they rang the guy up, wouldn't admit liability so they said it was too much of a battle.

Just explain that it was in no way your fault and (exaggerate if you need to) that you'll go to the courts to prove it, no matter how long it takes, and they wouldn't touch the case with a long stick covered in cow droppings.

Back from my days of driving artics I seem to remember that an employer is allowed to give out your contact details only to to the insurance company. Why have they given them to HH?
Or did you give your personal details out at the scene! (big no no!)

I do indeed drive for ESL, and was in their truck & covered by their insurance.

I have just gone to call Helphire back but have deleted my Voicemail's so sadly I don't have the number to call them. (Opps!:o) - They can deal with my insurers.

The Police took my details (including 'phone number) and handed them to the other driver, so I assume the other driver has passed my number onto Helphire.

Thanks for the info. :)

Surely if the police were involved their report would determine who was to blame for the accident anyway?

Thing is, as there was no injury, the Police deemed the incident "Not reportable", I assume from that, there will be no report.

The Police said they would be taking no further involvement.

The police do not decide whose fault an accident is, that is purely down to the insurance companies. The police are there to report accidents where there is an injury and to investigate if any offences have been committed that are apparant.

Pics god damnit!!!!

(No one was hurt so I can ask!)

I never gave pics a thought, that said, not much to see, - The car stood up to being "cue balled" by an HGV surprisingly well!

Well, they seemed pretty clear who was at fault.....

It's companies like HelpHire who are helping push insurance premiums through the roof. They bill insurance companies a crazy fee for the car rental - I've heard as much as £100 per day for a Focus or an Astra.
