Taking a 1 year old kid to a 'chicken pox party' - a party where some of the kids have chicken pox (!!) the theory being your kid gets it and has a blimin' horrible few days as it's 'better to have it now and beat it quite easily, then have it in later life and be in real trouble'.

Nice parenting, or nasty?

Just make sure you've had it before. It's not at all nice if you get it as an adult.

most kids get it at some point anyway so I don't think it really matters whether its now or later. Didn't know that getting it later in life could cause real trouble though.

Been going on for decades if not longer. My two boys got it from someone at their school and the older one had a terrible time while the younger one barely noticed. I think the younger they are the better so if you can get it out of the way at 1 you'll have done the kid a favour.

Yea my brothers wife got it when she was pregnant and the first thing the human body thinks (through evolution) is 'this is life threatening .. dump the baby' even though with modern medicine it's not :(

I got mine when I was 11, just before I was supposed to have entrance exams ... stupid timing

I had it when I was around 11 iirc, quite late and it was very severe with itchy spots everywhere you can think of.

A few kids got it at my sons creche (he's 14 months) a couple of weeks ago but he didn't, I kind of wish he had got it to get it out of the way.

I don't like the thought of it, and would rather let it happen naturally. Their bound to get it sometime in childhood nowadays anyway.

Can't it kill adults while if you're a child you only have a rough few days of scratching and rashes?

Yes it can be fatal especially if the adult is somewhat feeble anyway

(preggers, proper old, ill with something else, general weak constitution, mega fat or thin etc ..)

Be careful they don't find out otherwise they might get revenge like they did on south park by giving you herpes. :D
