Chicken pox parties - nice or nasty?

I had it a couple of years ago and spent 4-6 weeks off work (well working from home). It's extremely dangerous to pregnant women and as my then boss was pregnant I had to stay away until it completely went.

That was the 2nd time I had it, at first I though I had just been bitten by mozzies after playing football as it's not too common for adults to have it.

Most States in the US have it as a requirement that children are vaccinated for it before they start at nursery. It is quite effective if a booster jab is also administered.

And if you are really worried about it, there are some private clinics that can administer the vaccine (Varilrix) in the UK for a fee.

I was let loose to play with a contagious child and both my brothers were as well.
Nothing wrong with it to be honest, I'm glad I had it as a child :)

I suppose those who think its wrong wipe all their surfaces daily with IPA wipes and don't let your child out to play with other kids just incase they might catch something

No I'm not wrong, I said MOST contagious before the rash comes out. Which it is.

You might want to back that up with some hard evidence in case people take what you say at face value. It is most contagious the days before and the days after the rash appears throughout till the rash is blistered. Find me a few journal article to demonstrate that its "unlikely to spread" after the rash has appeared and I'll happily agree with you. However, the CDC does not appear to agree with you

I am not saying it as wrong what I am saying it would be remiss to pretend there are no risks involved. And I for one would not want that one my conscience. This is why there is a no-medical thread rule on here because people speak with authority on stuff that goes against medical knowledge.

If the OP really wants to know he should ask his GP - who will most likely say in all likelihood you will be ok doing it. But will most likely know the facts.

I think chicken pox as an adult can potentially scar, not to mention that it can impact on your days/weeks as you wouldnt want to go out with it. Much ebtter as a kid.

1 year old probs not really i mean its best if kids get it but babys i.e 1 or 2 year olds i dont think its ok is it?

Best if its 5+ up to about 15. At a guess.

Probs best to ask your doctor what ages are the best for them getting it.

You won't die but it's thoroughly unpleasant:

:D

In fairness, he will feel like he's going to die.

You'll also curse your parents for not getting you infected earlier :)

IN all seriousness someone mentioned you could pay privately to get the immunity injected or something.

I would really look into this. If it's less than £50 just do it. Otherwise you're more likely to get it (and experience the feeling of 1000 hangovers simultaneously that lasts for weeks and ends in permanent scaring) than not .. and if you get it aged >70 it'll probably cause you to pop your clogs ..
