Your Attainable Dream Car?

That's one thing I DID miss when I switched from my Mondeo. Look at the specs for the fully specced out Jap GZ's (the one I had). They're a gnats breath away from the UK spec ones.

Yup, they're the closest to UK-Spec you can get! Still have the J-Spec internals though, no getting away from that one :p I had a PDF which listed all the differences between the models, I can't seem to find it amongst all the other crap on my computer though!

I think if I got another, I'd look at getting a fully specced 6 speed GZ and go down the single turbo conversion route. I'd have no need for the UK Spec internals as all the better parts would be changed anyway! :)

edit: Also, Insurance on the UK Specs is MUCH cheaper compared to J-Spec (thats how I found it to be anyway - obviously on a highly modified single conversion this wouldn't really make much of a difference :P)

I think a point to note on the reliability of mine was that it was quite a low miler. It only had 45k on it when I bought it. Insurance was ridiculous at first - £2200 when I was 21. The last renewal (this Jan, just before I got rid of it), was £685.

This is why I don't drive a Delta Integrale or an E39 M5.

I can afford the purchase price. I can afford to insure it. I can afford to put petrol in it.
What I can't afford to do is bail it out when a substantial component fails. Even if I do the work myself there are going to be some jobs that are either beyond my skill level, or will require parts that are outright too expensive or just too expensive to justify/sustain over a long period.
I know my limits.

What is it you think that costs a fortune to repair that any other car on the Market has that also fails.
Buying into an M5 or any other "fast car" doesn't automatically put you into some sort of elevated price bracket of repair should a component fail.
The only regular thing you're going to have to purchase that might be considered expensive are tyres, but as soon as you put it into context of a similar sized barge, that goes out the window as well.

As a more realistic, short term (i.e. 1-2 years) choice, I'm quite fancying a Jag XK8 atm :o

Would be quite a step up from my Ka :D:(

Tyres, oil, brakes, clutch, exhaust - generally parts for performance variants trends to cost more than parts for the cooking versions, come on you have been in the trade for years, surely you have noticed this? Then there are the costs of things that cooking versions just don't have - VVT systems, intercoolers, turbochargers, 4x4 systems, specialist differentials etc etc.

I think he is perfectly right. Just because it is a quick car, or cost ££££££ when new does not automatically put it into the bracket of mental running costs. The supra is a case in point - I dread to think how much a major service like what Six6siX had done on his car would cost on a period 911 at a main dealer/reputable specialist, but it'll be a heck of a lot more than £1,500, which takes me back to my original point - Given the performance, they are 'cheap' to run. I've not once implied that they can be ran on a shoestring budget, but you can do worse.

But I'm guess despite two previous Supra owners saying similar things and my personal experience of running a similar I'm still deluded because a few people on a forum with seemingly no speakable experience of them says that I'm wrong.

I forgot how much 'fun' Motors was :p.

since i couldnt afford a real lancia stratos, a replica will have to do. oh, and throw in the group 4 bodykit and rally style paint while your at it :D
