Films you would like remade?

Well they've buggered that up, reducing the age to 21?

How old are the sandmen then?

the original age of 30 was just fine.

The book was 21, the film doesn't follow it particularly closely.

Also a decent Dune film would be nice, the 1984 one has a certain cult appeal but it's never been particularly good.

Another Full budget spectacular remake of Dune (Frank Herbet - David Lynch one)

The 2 part TV series was actually pretty damn good, just throw a sick amount of money at it for slick CGi and ludicrous lavish sets and costumes.

Only if it has patrick in it

Money is nothing without talent..

I would like to see a big budget remake of Metropolis

Dune.

Wing Commander? The BBC could do a better job with half the budget of Outcast!

Dune is being slated for a 2014 release, although the production seems to as controversial and complex as the original (which I thought was brilliant and is one of my favourite films)

I didn't know that. I have ordered the book to have a read.

The 1984 Dune film is one of my favourite sci-fi films of all time.

Another couple of films I would like remade are Silent Running and Dark Star

But why remake any? They are a product of their time and should reflect that. It is almost like asking which of your favourite books you would like to have re-written.

Studios like remakes because they can cash in on someone else's hard work. Remakes are probably less risky investments than brand new projects.

Remakes also give film makers a chance to improve upon an existing film. For example: a TV movie called L.A. Takedown was later remade as Heat.

Films like Dune are not technically remakes of previous films, they are based on the novels from which the original film was adapted.

Most remakes are re-imaginings rather than remakes anyway, obviously there are exceptions like the pointless Psycho remake.

Out of interest can anyone name any films that have unquestionably been improved by a remake/re-imagining of the original? About the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Gone In 60 Seconds and that's purely because despite the original having one of the longest car chases of all time is actually duller than your average ditchwater.

I'm sure there must be some more but the numbers of remakes that do improve on the original are infinitesimally small as far as I can tell. At least compared to how many travesties I can think of without much effort.
