Risen 2 with piratey action! Ohh how i miss pirate rpgs! Seadogs... :(

nabbed this snippet from a quote Neil79 did in the TwoWorlds 2 thread... a tad depressing imo
Big Download notes that TopWare's U.S. marketing head James Seaman made several comments in the Destructoid forums about this, including this: "My team needs to take a step back as the UK has been pretty harsh on our game, but such is life. I will make sure that nothing like this ever happens again, but some of my guys have put their heart and soul into this game and just need to take a step back." Moving forward, he also reveals that in spite of all this, they are working on the next Two Worlds game for release next year: "We are trying to do a better job every time and have brought in a brand new 3D modeling, animation and CG team for the next Two Worlds game coming out in 2012."

coz thats what an rpg needs....better graphics. /facepalm

you'd be a fool to expect those things from this game. For what it is, it's enjoyable, a nice simple RPG with an apparently well told story.

Why? Its meant to be the sequel to the spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate.

It should have been to Dragon Age Origins what Baldur's Gate II was to Baldur's Gate I.

And its made by Bioware.

Sod Baldurs Gate. This is Dragon Age. Fact of the matter is that it's still Dragon Age, and is still a multi-platform game. What on earth was expected I have no idea, but no gameplay mechanics have been removed so how people can whine I have no idea.

Why? I explained in the post you just quoted ffs! The developer diaries clearly stated that the game was taking a different direction months ago!

If you were still expecting it to feel like Baldur's Gate at this point you must have your head buried in the sand.

Bioware also streamlined the heck out of ME2, fortunately that was always a 3rd person shooter first, RPG second, so the streamlining didn't have as harsh an impact on the game formula as a whole.

I dont follow developer diaries. I simply preordered it as a long time fan of Bioware. I was expecting it to be like Dragon Age Origins at the least, and it hardly feels like it.

Funny how the different direction that Bioware choose to take is about a thousand steps backwards from the previous games that this is meant to be a sequel to.

Oh right, thats called dumbing down, the thing I dont like.

And in fact turned Mass Effect 2 into arguably the game of the year.

People seem to call anything different dumbing down, which is just ridiculous.

u reckon they basically wanted to make a Mass effect style game except in a fantasy n swords setting?

ohh can you zoom out in DA2 ? like in DA:Origins to manage battles and whatnot tacticswise

No you cant zoom out for tactical combat. Thats one 'step in a different direction' that they took thats meant to make the game a lot better somehow.

The other step is that killing everything is as easy as pointing and clicking. You cleave through huge mobs of enemies in seconds, as opposed to the first game where a similarly sized mob would carried a death sentance, at least without top down pausing and tactical play with crowd control spells.

When did anyone say these things made the game a lot better somehow?

I too prefer the approach DA:O took, i just don't think DA:II is shaping up to be as oh-so-terrible as the majority here seem to be screaming about.

Its hardly even 'dumbed down' the core is pretty much the same with tactics and pausing to plan which could be needed just as much on hard etc when the game gets going, its on medium difficulty for like the first few character levels, DA:O was hardly hard and tactical at that point.

talk about over analysing :D the doomsaying and end of worlding about RPGs being dead is funny though, total overreactions.

I'm with Streeteh; I liked it and I do not think it is as bad as everyone is making out.

Graphics. Smaphics.. what ever.........

I recently (4 days ago) completed Awakening and one of the problems I did have with it by the end with the lack of tactile combat; I pulled off an ability and had little feedback to see if it had worked on the enemy. This does not look like it will be the case with DA2.

Anyway - I thought the demo was okay and can certainly see its potential which I have little doubt that bioware will deliver on. I am in no way saying that it will be the best it could have been or beat its predecessor but I do think it will be a good game.

My pre-order is remaining. It will take an IP, of which I am a fan, further and I certainly look forward to playing the full product.

Trying to run in DX11? It's utterly broken, if you are try DX9
-

Just kept crashing for me and when I had all on high settings it ran like a slide show withs 2 460's. I'm guessing its because theres no sli profile for it yet.
I haven't play origins or awakening and thought I'd try this but its put me off abit.

Really enjoyed the demo. Instantly I found the combat to be much more engaging than the first. Obviously nice that your character actually gets to speak as well - always looked retarded when I'd click the dialogue option and my character would just smile and move his head.
