The future direction of BMW

VAG are going to need to up their game as well, because i can currently buy a 330i with a 3 litre 6 cylinder engine and 272bhp that does 39mpg and costs £180 to tax.

Totally, makes the A5 3.2FSI look pretty crap really doesnt it?

330i M Sport Coupe 0-60 5.9, 272bhp, 173g/km CO2, 38mpg
A5 3.2TFSI S-Line Quattro 0-60 5.9, 261bhp, 214g/km CO2, 31mpg

Nice.

future direction ?, prolly backwards.. same as they appear in my wing mirrors on a daily basis :)

Really? You must be thrashing that overpriced Hyundai i10 hard if BMW's appear to go backwards? Maybe you're still angry about paying more for a used one than a new one? :p

That 3 series turbo'd?

Yep.... VAG really need to step their game up!

They don't need to bother because nobody buys one anyway, BMW have stopped doing it as a Saloon or a Touring and in the last 4 years only 600 people have bought a 330i M Sport Coupe of any transmission type.

Sigh.

This is what annoys me. BMW have brought their 3 litre 6 cylinder engines so far, to the point where no body can really get close to them in terms of all round ability, and now for the F30 the likelyhood is that they'll be dropping 6 cylinder engines altogether.

I've just read that instead of the N54 twin turbo in the 335i (or N55 single turbo now), they might introduce a 2 litre 4-pot with twin turbos instead.

:(

320i........ lol!

Everone is downsizing now. When will people realise that planet Earth has had it...... There is nothing we can do to stop the warming of the planet.

Why that little?! I bet a lot of people have been tempted by the 335i as there seem to be so many more of these on sale. But even then, the 272bhp engine in the 330i is one of the best 6 cylinders ever made! Maybe these figures have had something to do with why BMW have all but dropped the 6 cyl for EU markets. Like i said in a previous thread, the BMW salesman that was trying to push my mum towards buying a diesel was even surprised when i told him to look at the 330i's MPG and tell me what the difference was. I really think BMW could have marketed this engine better as i think when people hear "3 litre engine" they immediately think of 20mpg.

Get rid of the 335i/135i/535 ect ect ect and replace with the 30i.

Will make their M cars really special!

That and the fact consumers are, largely, stupid and do little if any pre-purchase research. Give them a 272bhp 3 litre petrol engine with 173g/km of CO2 and near 40mpg combined and they'll still not buy it

Does it really do 39mpg in the real world? It seems to good to be true

I think this is all very exciting! We are in the midst of a significant shift in the direction of the industry that is fostering the development of interesting new technologies that have the potential to improve our quality of life.

Soon V6, V8, V12, V10 engines will be reserved for extremely premium and super cars only.

Golf R32 replaced with the Golf R aka S3 (2 litre turb)

Everone is downsizing now.

Even if downsized in class, power and engine size, say, by buying an Audi A3 2.0T i would be getting 35mpg as opposed to the 330i's 39mpg. If i downsized even further to a 2.0TDI i would only be getting 8mpg more, emitting less than 20g/km less and i would have over 100bhp less and 1000cc's less.

It just makes no sense!

I think it probably might - as I said a few days ago I drove an E60 with the same engine on a long trip on Monday and acheived 38mpg with the same driving style that usually yields 31mpg from my 530i. And only 5 miles of this was Motorway.

I think Fox said that he recently got 38.x in his dad's LCI E60 which has the same basic engine as the 330i. So the answer, is - yes, it appears so!

I was refering to the Marques not the general public.
