10 weeks what can I acheve

It doesnt matter what the intensity of the machine is, its how intensity the person puts in. You have to assume that the person is prepared to put the same amount of personal perceived effort into each activity.

If you prefer to cycle then cycle, if you prefer to use the cross trainer then use that is the obvious solution. I tend to just mix them up as I feel like it.

Mind you I don't worry about it for weight loss really, tht's what my diet is for, the cardio is for fitness. (for me)

I assume you'll be doing some weight training?

Why is everyone so hung up on machine calories?? I'd much rather have a distance or time goal as a measurable quatity that I can progress, counting calories is a waste of time. Also, comparing calories like that isn't useful unless you isolate a lot of other variables. 20 mins HIIT row compared to 40 mins steady state bike, both burning the same amount of calories, do not have the same longer term effect on body composition.

Don't use cardio with a calorie burning goal.

You can achieve quite allot in that time. An important factor is your diet though, if your not eating properly then your going to limit what you can achieve. For fat loss I think that its pretty important to cut down on the carbs if thats a big part of your diet, especially around the times that your planning to go on your gym sessions for fat burning. Low carbs and long steady duration exercise should see you getting some good results.

so i started up yesterday evening with 25mins on the tredmill (after saying i cant run i quiet liked that really) followed by 20 mins on the cross trainer and then few light weights. just to get me back into it softly.

went again this morning, 25mins on the tredmill 15mins on the cross trainer and they some more weights, working on my arms and chest. using the resistance machines lifting 25kg (i know im a pansy lol) 10 reps x 3 on 4 machines.

finished off with a quick uphill walk on the tredmill.

nothing to hard but enough for me to be feeling it tonight. now tomo im thinking of going twice, once when i finish work at 7am doing cardio maybe bike and rowing tomo, then go back before i start tomo night and do some resistance weights with the legs.

although maybe my legs are taking to much of a battering with all the cardio every day! after all i am going 5/6 days a week, sometimes more than once a day.

Your legs will always benefit from some resistance training! If you start to struggle then i'd drop a card session before one of your weight sessions.

ok ill keep that im mind! as for weight sessions is it worth doing legs every 2 days and arms every 2 days? not sure what to do with abs yet though! still waiting for my PT appointment!

Don't over do it straight away. Sounds like you're going an awful lot for somebody that's just really getting started or back in to it.

As for the frequency of your training it'll depend entirely on the volume and intensity of the workout.

Don't forget your chest,back and shoulders ;)

only reason im going so much straight away is im 200miles from home working 7 days a week for 10 weeks 12hours a day. so once i finish at 7am there really isnt much for me to do, and i cant sleep for more than 7/8 hours :(

This heh.

You don't need to rotate like that. I'd probably do a full body split 3 times a week. If you genuinely have more available time then I suppose it wouldn't really hurt to go to a 4 day heavy/light upper/lower but really I think you shouldn't overextend yourself early on.

As long as you leave each part sufficient time for recovery and you're eating well then high frequency training is okay :)

its mainly the little buldge i have left on my belt line i want rid of! so im guessing more cardio than weights is the way forward?

Resistance training is as important if not more so than CV work. Muscle burns calories at rest. More muscle you have the more calories you burn without needing to do anything. Building muscle requires a calorie surplus though. You can build muscle and burn fat at the same time but it's difficult and generally more effective to do one or the other.

Resistance work is still useful for burning calories so keep an even balance.

You have my condolences as well I can manage 2 or 3 12hour static shifts before I'm itching to get back on the doors and have some human interaction :D

well i do get some human interaction will get a lot when they shoot but thats not till the end of april! lol so pretty quiet at the moment! 10 weeks of straight 12 hour shifts without a day off means i need something to focus on during the days lol
