Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

No not really. The original DAO on normal was a lot harder, at least on the PC where friendly fire was enabled on normal difficulty too.

A mob of 20 hurlocks would have been far far tougher on normal in DAO then they are in this demo.

They said in the developers diary that medium now is equal to easy in DAO. Hard is a mix of hard and medium though. It's because on medium in DAO it was very difficult to get into Redcliffe Castle.

Yea, and thats why I liked DAO. Redcliffe castle was A++++++++++

But only due to being able to play it in top down view ofc.

All of my playthrough videos were done on normal, I played the game twice on normal and it was still challenging and had me interested right from the start. DA2 doesnt do that.

So you cant' turn on friendly fire in the full game?

DAO was pretty easy, all DA2 seems to do is remove some of the pausing during fighting as the fights are over quicker (and far more spectacular). However I have a feeling it'll be a lot easier to lose a fight in DA2 at the higher difficulty levels, we'll only know once the full game is out though, no point assuming the demo is how the finished product is going to function - there's plenty of time yet for the usual patches!! :D

Its only on nightmare difficulty. Due to how difficulty normally works in these games, the only way to get friendly fire would be along with insanely hard enemy mobs? I'd rather have tactical play on normal difficulties as an option instead.

Would it have been so hard to make friendly fire a separate toggle instead of based on difficulty?

DAO was pretty easy

Most of it was, however I've seen at least 10+ posts around for the DA2 demo saying that the ogre fight is too hard. I seriously lolled, I clicked on him, mashed 1 + 2 and he died?

It hardly even compares to the ogre fight in DAO.

I played through the original on normal mode and it was ridiculously easy, I ended up bumping up the difficulty to hard about 4 hours in. I don't remember friendly fire being there on normal mode though. I played it on the PS3 though, so there may have been differences in the difficulty.

*Shrug*

They've changed the combat. It was always going to split people one way or the other. I personally like the way they've gone with it, although perhaps they should have released this as something else other than DA2 (perhaps as a spin off maybe?), as it does play like a totally different game, at least on the PS3, haven't tried the PC demo.

Surprised at that, seems fairly pointless to remove the option. Even if they set it to FF off by default on lower difficulty levels. As I said, that only requires a patch to fix and as it's bioware we'll have plenty of those.

Normal difficulty on the PC version of DAO was the same as hard difficulty on the consoles, surely you knew that right? :p

They removed friendly fire from normal on consoles cos its too hard, but left in on the PC at normal difficulty because really, thats how the game should be played (on a PC with top down view, pausing, tactics, and careful controll of AoE spells).

I just had to check, i'm sure i'm in the PC games section right? lol.

If you played DAO on the console, you should be very ashamed :p

No, I didn't know that haha. Explains it I guess.

Basically it seems to me that playing DA2 on normal will be the same as playing most other RPGs on godmode with hacks.

Playing DA2 on nightmare will be similar, if not the same as playing DAO on normal difficulty on the PC.

And how can anyone possibly enjoy playing DAO without a mouse and keyboard and without top down view? Thats the same thing as watching Star Wars with the volume muted and your eyes closed if you ask me.

DAO was sooo much better played on the PC with top down view than it is on consoles.

The main reason FF is off on the lower levels is because the camera view is a complete joke. Seriously its not possible to effectively manage your positions and AoEs with that crappy 3rd person chase camera. Its blatantly designed 100% for consoles. All you had to do was sit there and cast multiple DoTAoEs over you and you could instawin any melee mob.

wel lthey did say they remvoed the pseudo iso view because the consoles couldn't handle it with the increased texture sizes.

Yea, exactly.

Without top down camera view, tactical gameplay with FF is completely non existent now.

A Bioware dev meeting for DA2 -

Dev 1 - Oh hey guys, we gots to sell our new game Dragon Age 2, any ideas on how to make it sell loads?

Dev 2 - Oh, I know, how about completely dumbing down the combat to a basic hack n slash so console gamers will love it? *By console gamers, ofc we also mean all the people that play games on the PC, but cant even spot a lousy console port when they see a blatant one right in front of them. Lets also completely remove the top down camera view so PC gamers cant play with a strategic view of the combat anymore. We will have to remove friendly fire too though because it will be completely rubbish without the top down camera angle. Lets just leave it on nightmare though cos it will be completely lulz with the third person camera angle.

Dev 3 - Oh, heres another idea, lets give the game an early pre order signature edition so loads of fans order it right away. Then when the offer for that is over, lets announce exclusive pre order items. But this time, lets have like LOTS AND LOTS of exclusive pre order items so all the fans will go crazy for wanting all that useless ingame stuff and place loads of preorders.

Dev 4 - Hey, and dont forget to ask EA to bribe PC gamer into giving the game a 9 star review, and lets pay them a bit extra to write that DA2 has the best combat ever seen in an RPG. That will surely get us lots more pre orders.

Dev 1 - Wow, ok lets try all of those mostly rubbish ideas out and massively troll the gaming community with all the crap you guys just suggested! Roffle, this will be fun!

Yea, look, more preorder bonus items:

I genuinely believe that Bioware are purposefully trolling the PC gaming community with this release.

Wouldn't worry about these downloadables, people will just mod them in to the game later on for free.

Im not, just pointing out how ridiculous it is giving out so many in game items to tempt people to spend their money.

I was only interested in the Signature Edition because I like Boxed CEs, but I cancelled it. I'm still considering buying the chess box edition of Shogun 2, but £70 is quite a lot for just a game :(

'Cant see anything, cant pan the camera'.

Yay for no top down view. TBH if the game had top down view, I would have been loving it.

28:45 - Wow, the AI super fails at healing! The tactic slots were set up and no one was getting healed.
