E91 M3 Touring

Pointless when there's the M5 Estate.

I personally don't see the point of the 3-Series Touring normally... if you want an estate BMW get the 5-Series Touring.

Well it to cater to a market, there will be people buying new cars who want an estate and can only afford a 3.

There are obviously enough of these customers that it isn't worth just giving up and leaving all these people to walk to their nearest Audi or Merc dealer and buy an A4/C-Class.

No, but the only thing illegal about is the physical size of the plate. The vehicle registration mark itself is legal.

Thinking about it, 4 characters isn't anything massively out of the ordinary - the size of the actual plate put me off so to speak.

Well that looks rather nice :)

If you want a 3 Series Touring rocketship, you can get a Alpina B3 S BITURBO. Only 400bhp though :(
Does come with optional 4wd though..

Also, I never knew BMW had a panoramic roof like that, thought it was Mercedes only!
Both Tourings have one, as does the Gran Turismo.
Pretty sure Audi have a full-length sunroof, too.
Everyone has one these days, back in the day I think it was Mercedes who were one of the first. It was the only reason we got one of those C Class Sports Coupes actually :o

I don't doubt the talent and amount of work that's gone into it :).

It's just size wise that I don't see the point of the 3-Series Touring at all. Same with the Astra/Focus estate... completely pointless when there's the Vectra/Mondeo estate.

Because some people want a bit more space, not as much space as a larger model gives though.
With the seats up the 5 doesn't hold that much more than the 3.

Do you question why people buy a 1 series coupe when they could have a 6 series instead?

Poor man's 911, etc.

Why stop at a 6 Series? Clearly everyone should be driving around in a RR Phanton Coupé.

I think the black wheels suit it very much and looks especially nice with the silver lined dish lip.

iirc the number plate regs don't stipulate a size

Just character spacing.

So if you've got a 4 digit plate, you can have a smaller one thats legal.

Whats with the hater comments about it not being an M3 due to not having structural strengthening of an M3. Would have thought the M3 only had superficial panel differences rather than a completely different shell ?

*edit*

Regulations

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_181503

Nothing in there about plate size, just spacing from edge, spacing from top, spacing between characters etc..

There's a plate 64M around my way, changes car quite often. Always on a small plate rather than full size. Would look horrid being bigger.

Wheels look really out of proportion and I'd have sorted the front bumper out (or stuck a normal sized plate back on) before showing it as finished.

Also, and this may be a general BMW thing but having a row of 6 buttons, 5 of which are blanks would bug me every time I looked at it :p
