My Zotac gtx 480 has stopped working on me, the retailer has no replacement 480s in stock.

What card would people here consider to be fair replacement?

Be cheeky. Ask for a 580 ;)
The replacwment depends on the CURRENT market value of the card. Sadly this is £203 from a reliable retailwr. Ask for a 570 if the 580 fails

a 570 is a perfectly reasonable replacement to ask for, given both perform similar in game performance, power and thermals are a different matter lol. Don't settle for anything less. tbh they are going to offer a 560 amp or something like that, emphasize the fact that your not fussed what model but it has to provide equal performance at the very least, and provide verification as well.

they initially offered me Gigabyte GTX 480, but I rejected it as the warranty is inferior to the 5 years I had on the Zotac

Personally I wouldn't be accepting a 560 as a replacement. £400+ card swaped for a £200 one, no chance, the 560 is definitely a step down.

It's not about the price - it's about matching it with something of similar performance.

Have a look at reviews of the Gigabyte GTX560 SOC. ;)

For me a 570 is a worse card than the 480 due to the memory on board. I would expect either a 580.

The 480 has more frame buffer yes, but at 1920 x 1200 the cards are similar with wins for both at that res, as can be seen here and there is no issue with ram.

Above 1920 x 1200 the 480 edges it due to the larger frame buffer.

Gun for the 570 and push them, you were sold that item at a premium cost at the time, you will be running that 570 at nigh on 580 specs anyway.

Tell them you are prepared to provide documented proof of the card comparisons. If they are still reluctant and trying it on, inform them that you intend to seek advice on the matter.

As i said it doesnt hurt to ask for something ridiculous. Why not ask for a 570 and say youll pay the difference for the 580? Or maybe if you get an evga card you can use their stepup programme and upgrade

Very true, but don't bother saying you will pay the difference for the 580, imo it's not worth it, another £150 min, more than halfway to a second one lol

Depends whether he wants an upgrade or not. Id say it was worth it if he needs/wants a 580

Something of similar performance would logically be the 570, not a card that's literally reached it's overclocking limits, also it's 1gb frame buffer v's 1.5gb. If that's what I was being offered there is no way I would accept. They have a responsibility to exchange it like for like. Op should say he games at a high resolution in case they do try to offer the 560. I don't know where the op stands though as they have offered him a 480 albeit with a lesser guarantee.

Don't understand why you didn't accept the 480 to be honest, it's a totally fair replacement since its the same card :? To not be too finnicky and be more likely to get a proper replacement I'd just ask for a 570. Pretty much same card but just cooler and quieter so a nice little bit of noise and heat taken out of your case for no cost.
