HTC Desire to have official Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) by June

Good news for all the Desire owners who intend on keeping them for a while, it's being reported on a few sites that HTC announced an official upgrade to Android 2.3 around June time.

Oh yeah the Desire HD, and Desire-Z will be getting the updates too

Thats if your provider approves the update, or is interested in it

Of course, you can always use the non official rom, and Gingerbread is available at XDA developer currently

Yip, that's why I didn't make the mistake of buying the phone on a network and getting it sim free, as soon as HTC release it, it'll be mine

yes! Just hope the Phone style keyboard changes back to what it was like in 2.1, with separate keys for ! and ?

I imagine HTC will bring the integration back with Sense.

Just a quick update on this.

Three have announced that they have been passed the update for testing and it will be coming to Three branded DHD and HTC Desire's by the end of April, which should mean that unbranded phones should have 2.3 Gingerbread within the next week or so hopefully!

Just hope that the official updates can be rooted easily on the Desire Z. Rooting the current updated software is a bit of a fiddly thing.
