LG wins injunction against Sony PS3

i cant see lg backign down on this tbh... a lot at stake for them. and if sony have infinged on br tech its going to go global big style ... sony wil have no choice but to pay up , or the ps3 cant be sold
 
I might be talking out of my ass, but i think the problem lies within the BD Group who made/ developed BR tech.

The group pay % to use the tech to all other members in their players.
Thats not the issue.

The issue comes with the PS3, which Sony argue is a games console, and thus falls outside of the original agreement.

LG are arguing saying that its only true for gaming purposes, and it infringes on agreements to use LG patents when playing BR movies, unless Sony pay up, which they havn't / wont.

The other suit regards Bravia link, but its much less entertaining.
 
I find it so silly how companies decide to wait until a patent has been infringed and hugely distributed before they dispute it so that they can claim a much larger sum. Honestly, if a firm is aware that their patent is being infringed early on and they allow it, imo they should be barred from taking legal action later. All this does is hurt innovation as firms are focusing more on legal issues than the improvement of their products.
 
No, they were told not to use it which they didnt for a while. The first PS3 had no dual shocks, they later agreed to sort things out which is why we now have them.

I can see sony winning look at how the hacker thing turned out sony won, even when Apple lost virtualy the same case.

Yeah Sony lied and claimed it wasn't possible to get the rumble tech and the motion control sixaxis to work together. Then of course Nintendo did it and "magically" Sony worked out how to do it with the Dual Shock.

You just confirmed that they did get done in then lol. Sony ended up looking like idiots, didn't one of the suits say that rumble was outdated and not needed? It was something like that.

and the hacker thing is different, LG aren't doing something illegal or on the verge of it.

What are you talking about? If you're talking about the case against Geohot and fail0verflow, then Sony haven't 'won' anything, it's still on going.

Apparently thousands of import units have been seized already, however that can only go on for a short while unless they prolong the injunction (which if they're serious about it they will) and I've heard they can even have them destroyed :(
In the end they're winning the case at the moment, if it carries on like this Sony would just pay them to keep it going as I don't see them letting the PS3 just die because of an infringement. They'll pay what they need to as the PS3 gets them money.

It is unlikely they will be destroyed until the case is finished.
LG can demand it, but if they lose they will have to pay .. a bit too much risk.

I agree its unlikely, doubt it will occur but it was just stated that its what is in there power to do on an article I read.
Your right though, seems a bit risky if they lose.
