Advice needed please (Gaming rig for £1300)

The store I'm getting it from have the case and psu as an option but the fan you suggested is not in their options. (I could always choose none and buy seperately from ocuk :))

These are the options out of interest:

INTEL LGA1366 CERTIFIED CPU FAN & HEATSINK
ARCTIC FREEZER 13 CPU FAN
ThermalTake Frio Gaming CPU Cooling Fan
Coolermaster Vortex 752 Low Profile CPU Cooling Fan
CoolerMaster V6 GT CPU Cooler
CoolerMaster V8 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan
PROLIMATCH MEGAHALEMS Rev. B Gaming CPU Fan with 6 direct heatpipes

get the new sandybridge for futureproof not old gen cpus like the i7 960 get a i7 2600k or i5 2500k get the 6950 best option unless you have the moneys for a 580

There's a system builder now on here, you can have a Sandybridge System with the case i mentioned too.

Out of those i would get the Thermaltake Frio.

The i5 is perfectly good for gaming. The cash saved can be spent elsewhere - on a blu-ray drive for example. The 480 is on offer at the moment, but since you have room in your budget get a 580 instead maybe?

It looks really good although change cpu to i5 2500k, choose the 25% overclock option, 4gb ram is enough and change the DVD-RW for a blueray should be £1500 or so then? yet a better performing pc aswell for gaming.

We keep going over this lol. Money is not an issue regarding the cpu so even if I didn't mind spending the extra for i7 2600k you would STILL suggest getting the i5 2500k? Or is the i7 better for games but not by much so not worth the extra?

I really am worried that I get the i5 and then games come out this year which would have benefited more from the i7.

I really am sorry for my noob brain, and constantly asking similar questions. I have waited YEARS to get a decent pc and vowed that I wouldn't make any (controllable) mistakes that I'd regret. Hope you understand

Only difference between the 2500K and 2600K is that the 2600K has hyperthreading, but in games they're not used at all. Games usually only use 2 cores, with very few using 4. Hence a higher clocked 2500K will beat a 2600K on a lower speed. It's up to you though if money's not a limit... but share that cash with us instead ;).

Is there a chance games will use hyperthreading in near future? Or am I asking the dumbest question ever asked on these forums?

Well go for it if you wish, you never know what lies ahead with pc technology anyway and afterall it is a great pc you mentioned but i suggest you get the 25% overclock though still.:p (if not use the option to have all overclocked as 580 overclocks very well)

Some games do benefit from hyperthreading already although it's rare at the moment and the performance difference wouldn't be noticeable as the pc will already be hitting high fps with that spec as it is.

Thanks Sycho, i5 2500k with oc it is :)

Good choice, and use the cash saved for a big overclock, these things can easily pass 4ghz, some even reaching 5ghz!

Are these overclocks stable? At the minute I'm going for the 25% oc, I'm not experienced at all with overclocking so I preferably dont want to have to worry about changing things when it arrives due to instability.

It's possible there may be instability but it's very rare it seems from Overclockers systems/bundles however if it does happen the majority of the time it's caused by the voltage being a notch or two lower than it should be which is easily fixed in the bios.

You can just send them a webnote and ask about it if you want which they reply to fairly quickly.:)
