After much self-debate I've just decided I'm going to take the plunge, and have ordered the base model 13" MBP and an iPod Touch 8GB. I've never owned anything Apple before, so this will be quite the experience. I plan to add an extra 4GB RAM, and then once Lion comes out I'll put in an SSD.

Wish me luck! :D

Lol you've never even owned an iPod before.... you sound like my grandad

edit: Good luck, you'll love them I'm sure!

No, I'm nothing quite that bad lol I've always just preferred more open technology. :p But I finally caved after trying some things out at the Apple store. I've craved a MBP ever since; the iPod Touch was just a bonus. So here I am. :)

I just hope I'm not disappointed lol

I'll agree with that sentiment, started with a 3GS when they came out, and now own a MBP, iPad and all the extras that go with it. Apple do well from my salary :)

never had anything Apple ? ...

Have you been living under a rock?

:D

Well it might seem that way to you pre-converts. But when you think about it, for us Windows and Linux users, aside from the iPhone and iPod there's nothing else to buy really. Since I already have and love my Android phone, and have always used my phone for music, it's not exactly hard to avoid Apple stuff.

Until now. :)

Never had anything Apple myself, although an MBP or MBA is possibly on the cards.

Never had the need for anything really, got bought an MP3 player about 4 years ago that still works and has plenty of capacity, not into my phones so an iPhone would be wasted on me!

Apple haven't exactly made a huge varied range of products have they, desktop, laptop and mp3 player (pre ipad days) basically.

I'd like to see what apple kit you've got in a years time. Once you get started you'll just buy more and more apple stuff.

I know what you mean. I got my iphone 3gs day it was released. Over the time come to realise how good OSX is. I was really thinking is the IPad IMac and all them worth the really big price tag. I finally caved in to it last august and brought the ipad 3g then 27" IMac in september and finally my 18 month old sony vaio broke so i holed out for a new MacBook and now have a 13" version

I wouldn't think twice about spending so much money on it all as there made so well as the OS is just amazing (Still brought applecare as the missis at uni so student discount got the IMac and MacBook applecare for £50 each)

My little girl who is 4 thinks IPads are the best think peppa pig and everybody's golf are the best things so now she has her own IPod touch

Sorry to hijack your thread but is this the correct RAM for the new macbook pros?

Getting mine delivered for next Tuesday.

Yes. The MBP's from late 08 to mid 10 take PC3-8500 (1066). The new early 11 take PC3-10600 (1333). Although remove the competitor link before a moderator sees it.

Are they classed as competitors? They're the actual manufacturer - surely no more a competitor than linking to Apple or Microsoft (who also sell Windows like OcUK etc)?

I'd have thought since Crucial sell memory from their website then yes, they're a competitor. Linking to Apple is fine since OCuK isn't an Apple reseller or distributor.

No, but MS definitely is and OcUK sell a lot of MS products. Even the mods link to MS sites. Interesting one. :D
