Netbook vs Tablet - let's fight it out

This is the debate I'm having right now, between:

which are both £230 & £250, the same price as the Advent Vega.

But I'm leaning towards a netbook because the Vega only has a 4GB memory card included which means I'll need to buy another micro SD card, 32GB cards are at least £40, which means it'll be around £300 to get everything I need for watching films/music/web browsing.

Whereas netbooks have a 250GB HDD and everything a computer has including memory card readers for extra expansion & have 8-10 hours battery (the same as the Vega). And if you need more space you can always buy a new HDD, I've seen some 640GB HDD for netbooks (2.5") for £50 and 1GB DD3 memory for £23, so for around £75 + £230 for the netbook works out at roughly £300 for a 640GB HDD/2GB DDR3 netbook!

Makes sense to go for a netbook cause you get way more for your money but there's something about tablets which are fun & cool (my dad has an ipad so I've been tempted to get a tablet of my own).

They have slightly different uses, but more importantly a different form factor. Each person will be different. But for what I do couch/bed surfing/watching. I prefer tablet form factor. As well as the apps and games on it makes a clear winner. Then of course most have cases which allow for adjustable stand and many have attachable keyboard.

So it really comes down to cheaper netbook but limited use, or more expensive tablet with more uses and changeable formformat.

Now some people say you can do more on a netbook due to OS, but I would have to disagree. It might give you the option to, but with the lack of speed and lack of specific programs it does less. Than what a tablet with thousands of specifically made apps can do.

The thing that is stopping me with the Vega is the rather poor resolution when compared to the ASUS offerings... but that price is hard to walk past... looks like I'll be dropping into Currys...

The low resolution doesn't really hinder it, it'd just be a nice, icing on cake sort of thing.

Hmm the general consensus on XDA is that the screen is horrible... for a device that's soul interface is the screen, it's a bit of a show stopper for me. Shame however not surprising, you do get what you pay for with tech.

I personally can't see any problem with the screen so I don't know what people are going on about.

Give it a go, its really ok, just not ipad sharp.

Yeah I had a play with it in Currys - I'm sorry to say that I wasn't blown away - it had some frustrating quirks like apps opening in funny orientations and the overall feel was quite plasticy. I know the OS stuff can be sorted by the Modoco ROM but I'm not a fan of the feel - get what you pay for I Guess.

With my new band I'm playing guitar and singing and because of my inability to remember words I have a lyrics book on a music stand but I have trouble seeing it because of the light - NOT NOW

Asus Tablets have an IPS 1280 x 800 res touchscreen, 512 MB or 1 GB RAM, 5 MB pixel Camera+ flash Led, 16 GB or 32 GB storage.
No need to mention the rest, but the IPS touchscreen makes a big difference, as well as the amount of RAM and the storage provided. I guess the 16GB or 32GB are more SSD like than the nand flash from a micro SD card, in term of performance... ^^

I was thinking about buying the MotoXoom, but Asus tablets are a best bargain I guess as we don't need to buy very expensive accessories in addition to the price of the Xoom tablet.

At the moment, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and really love it, but an additional 10" tablet would make me feel happier...

So I could sell all my crappy Netbooks. :cool:
