I want money so I can buy this :(

I have been playing it this morning and really like it, cant comment on the campaigns being repetitive only on my first one so far. But the stages are differant instead of being fixed to a set of four units you have much more choice of upto four heroes or their squad if you dont want them. Then in each mission you can recruit more normal units to build up as larger force you like or buy upgrades for the heroes.

Sounds good

That was a quick discription as I was in a rush to get to uni but it seems there is a few ways to go about the campaign. I have four heroes atm but i didnt want cyrus so i chose to swap him for his alternate which is a unit of terminators.

Then in the battles when you break crates etc you get requisition which you can then use to make extra units from the control points. Or you can spend the points upgrading the heores attack, energy, or health. At the end of missions you get to choose from bits of wargear or unlocking another unit to build like the dread.

The last stand is pretty cool too a lot more units in the early waves and seems pretty hard. If anyone wants to play with me and my mates my steam is manicmike84, or my ingame name is kruxxie.

I don't quite get the tagline "Choose to build a massive army or lead your small squad of elite heroes into battle!"

The latter sums up the current DoW II. The first statement gives the impression they are going to give you the option of building large armies, which I'd love to see happen, but I can't actually find any information on it.

From what I recall reading the PC Gamer preview the other month I believe you as the player have the option to build an army a la DOW or micro-manage your single squad of heroes a la DOW2 or in fact do a mixture - how they get around this goes something like this:

Before you begin the level, you have the choice of what units to take into battle like you did in DOW2. What's different tho this time round is something like this: you can choose to DESELECT a hero and as a result you can have 10x squads instead which you can increase further by capping population caps on the maps.

As a result you can choose whether to have an army of squads or a squad of heroes or even a mixture of the 2 - a couple of heroes and 20-30x squads.

It's basically giving us the best of both worlds, you can choose your preference be it DOW1 style or DOW2 style....

I was bemoaning OcUK and Royal Fail today as I had no Retribution sat on my doormat; Then a postman turned up! :D

Played a couple of missions on Retribution and Alty described it perfectly. I prefer the DoWII style of micromanaging heroes, though it is nice to bring in some reinforcement now and then - even if they're there to just be cannon fodder! :p

I am glad they haven't forced the gamestyle one way or the other as that would have annoyed a lot of people!

So far the game is as expected - epic and the voice acting is excellent as to be expected from DoW! :)

Anyone played the multiplayer yet? Dont really care for the single player, will play that once... what i need to know is having played the multiplayer to death in the original and chaos rising does this actually add anything? All i have read so far is each army has like 1 new super super unit, and of course the IG are there... this doesn't sound like it is worth £25 to me

I actually had to free up some space on my gaming SSD to install this. I may have to think about buying a bigger drive. :(

Got my collector's edition this morning. Nice packaging, very good for £25.

Same here. It was the only retail version I could find, but I think it was worth the cash. Though I may be a little too old to have that poster on my wall. :D

That Inquisitor looks seriously bad ass!

I've updated the OcUK Steam Names List with a Retribution page so you can keep track of all the players from here.

You can find the list in my sig or in the sticky at the top of this forum.

I've only started playing DoW 1 so it'll take me a while to catch up to the rest of yous :o

i have added my name :)

really enjoying the campaign to start with. the missions seem more than just a trapse through a bunch of enemies for the sake of it,
with chaos rising i felt that the game lacked the imagination of the first DOW2
there was not a lot of interesting objectives and i felt like clicking on the end point of the map would allow me to complete the mission

with this it does feel that the fragility of the troops means that the tactics have to be altered a lot. the amount of enemies is balanced well with the heroes powers and abilities which makes for interesting firefights.
the campaign maps i have played so far have a lot of interesting choke points and flanking opportunities which i felt that CR missed.

i like playing as Guard so far, makes a change from playing space marines and wading in on everything

going to have a proper bash on multi later but i am really loving the steam integration so far.

just wish i knew more about the mythology about the series.
never really been interested in WH just like the DOW games which frustrates me a little as i dont know much about the background :(

must say, i am quite impressed with the extras presented in the collectors edition too. made it worth not purchasing via steam

i am down as rjkoneill on everything i play so add me if you fancy a game :)

Quick questions:

Is there a survival multiplayer mode like DoW2? I quite enjoyed that, but it needed more variety in terms of maps, waves, and player numbers.

I assume there are skirmish modes?
