Crysis 2 is another console port, no DX11!!!!

the main thing for me, the visuals are fine really, maybe some texture improvement but thats really all. the main thing I want from Crysis II (which I will be getting without a doubt) is for the game to be story driven, I couldn't give a toss about 'sandbox gaming' or any of that rubbish, because at the end of the day its irrelevant, since gaming is supposed to be more about 'experiencing an event' or living a story rather than messing about walking aimlessly through the streets of New York City. also personally I think the more 'console' style multiplayer makes the game more accessable than the traditional PC FPS scene, which is dominated by a bunch of people playing with enormous headphones on ridiculous volumes trying to hear peoples footsteps, etc. I think PC gamers for the most part take things too damned seriously, more petty things like tea-bagging and what not on Americas Army than I have ever seen on the 'terrible' Modern Warfare II. to be honest as well, nobody is forcing people to use a gamepad, nobody is forcing aim assist, nobody is forcing anything. I reckon just enjoy Crysis II for what it is, a game and try to lower these ridiculous expectations or else you will never ever enjoy gaming and should frankly stop and take up another hobby. ;)

PC gaming is defined by sandbox style games, anything else IS simplified and just because you find linear gaming fun doesnt mean everybody else has lost perspective.

It just shows PC gamers want to be engaged differently than whats available elsewhere on other platforms.

ive never had any trouble gettin into a mulitplayer game yet its good i like it but i havent played any online games since KINGPIN years ago abit rusty at it tbh but its good crack im dissapointed theres no DX11 im holding off buying it til i see wot the crack is with dx 11....

Interesting to see on the mycrysis the following:

Crysis 2 PC MP Demo 409 threads 3300+ posts

Crysis 2 XBOX MP DEmo 48 threads 440+ posts

I really don't think it will sell that well on consoles, crytek are known for pc games and id imagine they didnt win many fans in the console crowd saying crysis was impossible on consoles and lately theyve been saying consoles are holding back developments of new tech.

Take it from someone working in the industry; this is largely nonsense. Consoles are not holding back the design of games. If tomorrow they were suddenly infinitely powerful, do you think games would magically become orders of magnitude more fun to play?

Stupidly powerful new Games Consoles/PC's are not the panacea to mediocre games. Blaming all of this on consoles is incredibly boring.

If Carlsberg made posts... :p

So explain to me why DICE cant push 64 players in BF3 for consoles if consoles dont "effect" game design? course they do!

Because consoles are getting P2P servers as opposed to dedicated ones used for the PC.

Both PS3 and Xbox 360 have games that support 50+ players using dedicated servers. If Dice have made a decision to not offer dedicated servers to console users how is console hardware the limiting factor exactly?

You seem to be a completely lost cause, you wont even reply to posts that disprove anything you're arguing. I'm not sure why I'm even bothering tbh.

My next question is why not make dedicated servers on console version then? Surely the effort and price point for setting up a dedicated server is near enough the same for pc's right?

Primarily because more than 64 players is a phenomenon known as OVERKILL. I know some people think more = better, but, consider engine limitations (you'd need bigger maps = more stuff going on in those maps compared to 64 = stupidly high spec). Furthermore, over 64 players feels crap. Played MAG before? You can't really tell you're playing with over 64 people, it just feels like a load of small matches.

Please think that there maybe another reason behind a development decision other than consoles screwing PC over.

I may be incorrect, but you cant rent dedis on console can you? There's your reason. Dedi server costs are lowered on PC because the community rents/buys their own. The same is not true for consoles.

Ask Dice? I don't know why they haven't.

My guess would be that they know they'll get a massive clan following on the PC version that will buy their own servers, eliminating the need to foot the bill themselves.

I work in the industry too, on the whole you're right - consoles aren't holding back game design in general, but the main issue with multiplatform games is that PCs and consoles have fundamentally different UI designs. This invariably leads to compromises when you have to use the same basic design on both console and PC.

As someone who has worked on UIs for both consoles and PCs I can say with 100% certainty that it is very hard to design a UI that works just as well with a keyboard and mouse as with a controller - they're fundamentally different ways to control games. Also consoles are designed to be played on TVs across the room, so the UIs have to use big bold text, and easy to read menu items. This leads to huge font syndrome on the PC when someone is sat right in front of the monitor.

What normally happens with multiplatform games is the PC version is compromised more than the console version, because the console version is the priority, and because it's easier to focus on gamepad interfaces and convert to keyboard and mouse than the other way around. Hence consolification of former PC games when they go multiplatform.

EXACTLY. well said. To say that consoles dont have ANY impact on the pc version is clutching on straws. of course it does. thats why MANY are moaning about crysis 2. its why this thread was made!

How is it overkill for a fps "war" game. You think in real life only a maximum of 64 soldiers fight eachother

Yea of course you need bigger maps for more players. look at the maps from BF2. they could cater for more than 64 players in that game.

This game is trying to minic massive warfronts. not some corridor 2v2 COD style shooter
