WD 600GB Velociraptor - Still worth it?

Tonight I nearly pulled the trigger on an OCZ Vertex 2E 240GB SSD drive, but I do already have a 60GB SSD as a boot drive.

But then I figured, for under £200 I could pick up one of the newer Velociraptors and use it solely as a Steam games drive.

Is it worth doing?

Just feels like if I picked up the 240GB Vertex 2E it will land up as the boot drive and the 60GB SSD will hover about like an abandoned half cousin.

Thoughts?

Just my personal opinion but i don't think £200 is worth it for any mechanical drive

A lot of modern 7200rpm drives aren't much slower than the Velociraptor. You probably wouldn't even notice the difference.

One of these would be fine:

1TB for £42.98 compared to 600GB for £214.99

You could even put 2 in RAID 0 as long as you appreciate the risks involved.

Im leaning towards a 240GB SSD to use for Steam now. Not sure if it's enough room tho.

That depends on how many games you have.

You need to add up the space requirements of your current games and allow for new ones. Newer games can be the wrong side of 10GB installs.

Worked out I have about 180GB worth of games on the go at a time. Thought it was more than that, then realised I took into account disc installed games too before.

240GB Vertex 2E ordered!!! :-)

good choice arthur.. im think same to.. as 100gb does fill up very quickly.
