Oats aren't really low GI...they are medium when not powdered, good chance powdering them makes that even higher. Not saying they are bad or not low GI for some, but on average they aren't very low. It is easy for me to see my personal GIs since I'm diabetic and can measure the blood glucose spike myself. Oats have lots of good points anyway.

Ah, I did not know that! Cheers. How do you go about measuring your blood glucose levels yourself? I'm quite interested logging mine, if it's possible, to see how different foods affect me.

I think you're getting me muddled up with Tank. An honour, but there's no way I'm getting rid of my home gym! It's a pity about the Burgen, I usually freeze mine so don't really have to worry about it. Though I needn't bother really because I have 4-6 slices a day anyway so it gets demolished pretty quickly. I'd love a set of fixed dumbbells, or even ironmasters. Alas, I have to make do with standard adjustable spinlock dumbbells, far from ideal but I haven't the room nor cash for the alternatives.

Fairly easy to test they sell glucose meters in all chemists. The problem is it will tell you fairly little and is costly. The body likes its blood glucose just right, so no matter how much you eat or how fast it enters the bloodstream your body will get it into 'target'. You will see a rise but it is fairly small and will not last long so you'd need to use about £10 worth of strips to try and find the peak.

I believe for GI testing they use a continues glucose monitor (one that reads every few mins) but that ain't practical at home without training and lots of money. I think they might also measure serum levels of insulin too?

I can see the results because I have to do the insulin response myself, so it isn't hidden by the insulin doing its job.

I highly doubt it is of much use to you. I also can't be sure just because most diabetics myself included get a fast BG spike from oats means that non-diabetics would too. Thou our glucose absorption isn't known to be different I can't say it isn't 100%

Hi Guys

Been playing squash and doing light weights for about a year now, height 5.11" and weight is 11.5 stone... I now want to add some size but remain lean if at all possible.. I have a training programme sorted and I eat well and eat sensible...

How does this look for my first purchase from MP? Any advice/comments would be welcome :)

Thanks a lot Crowort. I didn't realise those strips were so expensive, I guess it won't really be practical like you said.

iMacMart, I'd get Impact Whey Protein as you get 5kg for the price you're paying for 2.5kg of isolate. Unless you're lactose intolerant of course, but then even the isolate still has small amounts I believe.

That was going to be my first choice but it has a higher fat content? But you do get more for your money

The fat content is negligible when included in a whole diet, its not worth the massive price difference unless you have a reason such as lactose intolerance.
