According to techpowerup the prices for 6970 and 6990 respectively are $370 and $699.

When you add vat that puts the 6970 at ~£270 and the 6990 at £517. So 6970 is about right but for some reason in this country compared to the US we get an inflated price of 6990 at launch.
 
straxusii we always get ripped off for tech in UK... We need to say thank you to the governments we have and had for that mess and thank them again for raising VAT because they are supposedly helping us in UK by making us pay more for goods and services.... Tired of stupid governments in this country .. now we have had 2 in a row that have no idea how to run their own country but too busy with foreign politics... Need I say more ?

It's because the manufacturers/retailers know they can rip us off more than most countries. We seem to almost expect things to be more expensive, and when they are we do nothing. It's not the government’s fault we live in a weak society; you can't blame them for everything. I don't suppose you have heard what other countries refer us to? - Treasure Island. Need I say more? Let’s face it, if people in the UK stopped paying these stupidly inflated prices they would have no choice but to lower their prices, but we still pay them.

the price is fine,there will always people with e-penis who just buy the card to say "ive got the best card in the world to play flash games".
 
Trouble is, we in the UK are mugs and still pay the extortionate prices, so the poster a few posts above is right, the manufacturers KNOW they can rip us off and thus WILL rip us off.
 
Fuel prices, VAT, Gas & Elec prices, consumer goods markups!

The British public just seem to keep bending over and taking it....we need a little revolution in this country.

The UK is governed by a legalized mafia of business / banking executives and their "boys club" school chums.

I noticed on the news last night that the chief exec of Barclays bank paid himself £6.5 million in bonuses on top of his £1.5 million salary....wonder how much of that came from the tax payer bailouts last year.

The working people of this country need to WAKE UP...dont these "Fat Cats" realise that without the working man (or woman) they would have NOTHING!!!!

Labour....Conservative....it's all the same these days.

There are no clear dividing lines between the major political parties nowadays.

The UK public need to realise it's US who really hold the power...not the minority business / banking execs.

Take a look at the middle east at the moment.......

When the people really decide they have had enough, look what can be accomplished.

Promoting anarchy is an idea of FAIL. Would you really like it if your family were getting assaulted whilst your possessions getting damaged/stolen...
 
A few places have the HD6990 4GB at around £530 to £550 on pre-order or with low stock. Hence,when the supply of HD6990 cards improve the price should be around this level. This puts the price roughly the same as a pair of HD6970 cards.

The main problem is people some retailers will sell at the right price but then of course if you know people are going to buy it anyway at a higher price who can blame OCUK? business is business.

If people are stupid enough to buy something at an inflated price that will drop soon enough let them, there the mugs unlike me I would wait for something to drop. If all people had that common sense OCUK would be forced to sell at the right price.

Then looking at benchmarks the performance vs cost ratio isn't great even at the right price.

No promoting anarchy mate...whats happening in middle east is obviously very extreme (but can you blame the people).

Im simply saying that once a society decides it wants to radically change something it's within the peoples power to accomplish this.

on topic:

the GTX295 was like 500quid at launch

its new, its shiny, its OcUK buying most of the UK stock to get pretty much exclusivity on a brand new flagship product.

1. they obviously cost a pretty penny for OcUK to get hold of
2. they obviously cost a pretty penny to secure such ammounts of UK stock
3. they obviously are stupidly powerful (look at the spec)
4. they obviously have performance improvements over 2x 6970s just like the gtx295 had massive improvements over the 2x260 sli? (cant remember which cards were duct taped together, i remember baulking at the price and buying on anyway!)
5. ultimately the price reflects the product, performance, desireability. the liklihood is if your going to make a thread complaining about prices and how the uk market appears to rip off tech lovers like the majority of the users on this forum then your opinion must stand on pretty much all other hardware too. i couldn't agree more. but making a thread isnt gonna make them reduce the price. selling items at a profit is just good buisiness :D
 
What’s with all the anger over price? Nobody is forcing people to buy it and there are plenty of other products available at a cheaper price.

ATI are in business to make money, end of. We already have an unlocked card with the 6950 giving free performance. Do you think this was an accident?

There are far too many people moaning at prices these days and spoiling the forums. I’m quickly coming to conclusion it’s all down to jealousy.

If you don't like the price move on....
