Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

I found the AOE easy to predict

If a character was within the AOE spell when you were positioning it, they would glow brighter than all the other characters, simples

No, you can't. You can't play tactically using that joke of an over the shoulder view, not even with the camera 'zoomed out'. You can't really judge the location or AoE of anything over distance.

Your entire criticism of the tactics revolves around not being able to look top-down in pseudo isometric? Well just wow.

I'd really hate to suggest that role playing as a mage it might be necessary to see through their eyes rather than a god view. I wouldn't suggest it mainly as despite having played an awful lot of crpg's since the late 80's, from the Bard's Tale, to Dungeon Master to the Fallouts, to BG to Torment & Arcanum, Mass Effects & the original DAO & endless others, the very last thing I would ever consider important is the camera angle :)

But fair play to you I guess, it's certainly a great reason to randomly rage ;)

Just downloaded mine via torrent. Not waiting for this stupid steam pre-load to unlock.

Game running great in DirectX 11 with high res textures and everything on max.

Running it on [email protected] + GTX460 2GB@850/1700/2000 . Note that atm the game is using 1170mb+ of VRAM. at 1920x1080 resolution!

I get that you didn't enjoy the demo, and what you're reading of it. But why do you feel you have to keep pushing people that have said they do enjoy it, telling them how wrong they are for it and what they can and can't do?

They can enjoy the crappy hack n slash version of DA all they want, it won't suddenly become the tactical RPG that DA:O was which all these 'the combat is the same' comments seem to imply.

I'm sorry, you don't think a camera angle is important? Well in that case please tell me how you get along with Alien Swarm done in first person rather than the default iso view...

Guys this isn't directly in relation to the game but would you recommend completing Awakenings before starting this or could I go back afterwards. Is the story distinct enough?

Unrelated story as far as I can tell, set in the same world - the big epic fail at the beginning of Origins triggers the story of this.

As for the hate on the over the shoulder view, i'm okay with that - played Origins & Awakening first on the PC, then played through them again on the console. It gave me a much greater appreciation of how skills worked together, being limited to 4 instead of however many you could fit on the bars. Didn't like the demo so much, played that on console - and it seemed a bit button mashy to me (works fine on God of War / Bayonetta etc. This game - not so much)

For all the things I don't like about DA2, the camera is not one of them. I played DA:O with ordinary 3rd person camera (not even zoomed right out most times) on hard and then on nightmare without a problem. Never used tactical camera once. If given an option I always play rpgs this way. Only ever use top down/tactical if its forced on me. For a true 3D rpg, playing like that feels wrong to me, its not an rts game.

Probably what makes DA2's combat so rubbish is the ridiculous fast pace. That sort of crap is more suited to beat'em ups and action games.

My feelings exactly. On the PS3 it felt like you were constantly mashing X, then mashing the other buttons as soon as the cooldown hit. It had the pace of something like Heavenly Sword or Bayonetta, but underlying it all was a RPG engine pushed to its limit, not a beat em up engine. Felt all wrong.

bothered by having less depth to the game as long as there is plenty there that makes up for it in the combat and superb storytelling, which DA2 seems to have got right quite nicely.

I'll see in a few days I guess :)

If you truly mean this, then I think you'll get more joy out of the Deadspace series, particularly the 2nd one.

I've just finished the first Dead Space and I'll be playing the second soon.

I'm not saying I prefer that sort of style but I take each game as it comes and I like pretty much all game 'styles', FIFA, The Witcher, DA:O, Killzone, MGS4, etc. I'm easy :p

Let us enjoy our "crappy hack n slash" version then. The combat isn't the same, true. For lots of us, the changes aren't making the game problematic for playing tactically.

I rarely used the zoomed out view in DA:O at all. Problem?

What? Because playing a game as it was designed to be played is the same has forcing a completely different camera angle never intended for use.

Actually, they say it's the best RPG combat ever.

Take a look at this editorial, seems like they've hit the nail on the head:

http://www.hookedgamers.com/editorials/2011/03/02/dragon_age_ii_the_decline_of_the_classic_rpg.html

So it plays more like darksiders then DA-O hmmm I knew these guys were dumb but not as dumb as to see that if DA 2 is successful, which no doubt it will be due to hype and over the top reviews (as most will find out when they play it on PC, if they are a genuine rpg fan) it could trigger a end to rpgs as we know it, and create a whole new dumbed downed experience to satisfy the kids and their consoles.

Slightly misdirected post, this was to the guy who posted the PC Gamer post.

EDIT: Just reading that link and it is writing exactly what I'm thinking.
