Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

Regardless of a lack of dedicated servers or any other controversy MW2 didn't deserve 0s or 1s, neither does DA2 just because it has changes from DA:O. It's just people acting out like kids because the game didn't turn out like they wanted. I'm amazed there's no "boycott DA2 because of the camera!!!1!" group with the same people holed up in.

Thats funny, a lot of people who post it with good marks say it hasn't changed from DA:O when it blatantly has. Now who is going to be giving the more honest opinion i wonder?

Amazing the difference between critic reviews and user reviews nowdays. The critics seem to be utterly worthless nowdays on the big franchises. Definitely some funny buisness going on. Glad I did not pre-order this abomination. It does make me worry for Bioware (being one of my favourite development studios).

Don't forget the reviews that list multiple bad points then somehow forget about them when it comes to scoring it. "Yes it has reused areas, bustling towns feel empty, nothing you do feels epic so thats 9/10 for atmosphere". On whose ****ing scoring system exactly?

Great Game cancled my FREE upgraded signature edition due to me loosing my credit card and me not updating my card details, they didn't even bother giving me a chance to update it.

And as I am on my first play on Dragon Age 1, I will wait and NOT buy Dragon Age 2 until I completed DA1 and the expansions :) hopefully find a second hand copy somewhere for cheaper... THANKS GAME :)

I don't trust any of them to be honest... As I said.

I've played the demo and I enjoyed it enough to want to keep my pre-order. Nothing written by a raging moron in a review (positive or negative) changes that. I'm capable of making my own mind up.

You really think that all these 0s and 1s are objective and fair well thought out reviews? I just think they're upset idiots.

I really, really dislike the way they have reused the same dungeon and building layouts. I must have been in the same house 4 times now.

Reviews/scores in the opening week mean very little. Only those with vested interests, ie. paid or knickers in a twist over something, bother to post them. A demo is far more indicative.

I fail to see how people can complain this is dumbed down, when there's been a demo released, along with all the information previously given. It's clear as day it's a game for the wider console market, there's some of us who'll enjoy it for what it is regardless, but if you're the sort who can only see the negative, well...

Don't like the demo? Don't buy the game. Didn't play the demo & ordered the game? Oops ;) Unfortunately, these are the sort that will be posting their angst reviews everywhere they can.

I think its more that people who have enjoyed bioware games for years are feeling let down beause they are now being shuned in favor of making more money. I guess its like your fav football team playing a crap game.

I saw it coming so have not bothered to pre order and will likely give it a miss. After all The Witcher 2 is just around the corner and thats looking much more like an RPG.

Sounds like me1/2 all over again.

Proper rpg's are not a thing of yesteryear, you just have to look a bit harder and look at new and up coming software houses.

I was able to play the full version :p

It's dissapointing, generally the same layouts for everything with a lack of side quests. Poor framerates which goes from smooth to stuttery/slow back to smooth again this is with vsync off and not a great deal of change in the scenery. A very hack and slash RPG with an annoying camera, actually worse than the demo because there is more enemies on screen with the full version. This really is a downgrade from DA1, best RPG,best RPG combat what a load of tosh!.

For example in the first part of the game they could've filled it with interesting side quests when you by choice join the merc's. Join the mercs for a year they say, do jobs for them and earn your pay. But no, cutscene kicks in and it's ONE YEAR LATER :o

The Witcher blows this out of the water, as does DA:O

so its crap?

Poor -> Average

Yes

You've done a years worth of interesting work for the RED EYE or RED HAND, something they call themselves. But no bioware decided to skip a year, i was actually looking forward to it.

Might be trivial for some, but :(

^^ yeah from what i have seen so far (not got it yet though) there is complaint of re-using assets from DA:O

Dont think i'll get this reading that link from hookedgamers.com made me miss rpgs like

a real rpg game said:
This consisted of some defining aspects: detailed character creation (not just customisation); immersive character interaction; strategic-based combat that required thought and timing; and a deep, engaging story that was shaped by the player’s choices

Also just to chime in regarding the camera angle. When you are a general you dont fight on the battlefield you direct it from your perch high up somewhere so you can get a good view. Its common sense a wider perspective that lets you see the battlefield makes for a more complex and strategical gaming experience.

By restricting the view - it is dumbing it down and makes it more a hack n slash experience.

I also dont get how people say ohh it would be really hard to make a proper rpg because of the complexity etc. Thats bs all you need to do is remake the likes of Arcanum, Baldurs Gate, Planescape.. but with updated graphics engine and sound without compromising on the gameplay style. Why the heck are they changing rpgs to be not rpgs no just give us the same game mechanics as those games except update everything else.

How in god's green earth an rpg has not been made of Dragonlance (since '90s :p) or the Belgariad uttterly utterly BAFFLES me....mad mad world :( *shakes head*

Rich, Epic storylines.... and yet not one mother is doing anything about it i mean wtf is the world coming to....

i mean holy hell i'd pay lots of money for a developer to release 2011 proper turnbased rpg versions of the old SSI rpg games. (no i dont want a mod nwn version either)

That just reminds me of Futurama 'interactive cinema'...

Press 1 for Calculon to begin a death-defying action packed adventure to rescue his beloved or press 2 to do your paperwork.
*presses 1* You have pressed 2.

Im sure you could search for yourself but here are a couple. If you read their forums you can find lots of other rpg's with old style game play.

http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/avadon/index.html

http://basiliskgames.com/

There are also a lot of mods out there for games like Dungeon Seige and Temple of Elemental Evil.

Im not on the elite graphics band wagon, guess thats what you get when you were brought up with games written in BASIC. Ill pass on graphics for depth for game play any day.

Ive read about the next Neverwinter Nights game, its going to be much like DA2. Another pass.

Those spiderweb RPGs are AAA++++++++++

I still played the Exile series up to a couple of years ago and feel like doing so again. The graphics are the most simplistic 2D sprites with no animation at all, but the sheer strategic turn based combat is maddeningly addictive.

But why cant anyone make those kinds of games with current day graphics?

Well, all you people moaning can look forward to The Witcher 2, I highly doubt that will be subjected to much 'streamlining'.
