I think Nvidia are saying screw the power and heat and will go all out to get the fastest single card title no matter what the result.
The 6990 will look much better value and much more practical after the 590 is released even if its a handful of fps behind.
2 6950s, unlocked to 6970s, rival 580 SLi performance for half the price.i'm in abit of a dilema actually ... buy 2 580s or hold of for a 590... then one day hope to buy a second one and sli ...could probly double up as a cooker. what you guys think really can't decide those twin frozer 580s look awesome.
or buy the rather hot 6990.

i have thought about it over and over again. but i have my heart set on the 580s or anything nvidia this time.Well I just posted this in another thread but I guess this one is more active.
So does anyone know if it will be, or ever has been possible to triple SLI with an Nvidia dual GPU card and single GPU card?
I won't be getting one but I'm 100% sure it will be the fastest GFX card on the planet.
i know this but ive been ati for 3 years kind of wanted to change to nvidia ignour the 6970s for nowi have thought about it over and over again. but i have my heart set on the 580s or anything nvidia this time.
edit - also the first 580 practically buys itself with the money i sold my 5970 for ( which i loved) quite disapointed by the 6990.
How though Raven? As kyles pointed out.. the 6990 beats 570 SLi. Two 580s on one board is going to draw insane levels of power and produce muchos heat, do you really see it happening?
Look, I really want vNidia to do 2x 580 cores maybe down clocked to 730 MHz, it must beat out crossfire with some sweet new Nvidia drivers, if it doesn't, then I'll flip-flop back to multi-GPU being worthless, and the 580 being the only thing that counts, because it's one GPU
