So come 22nd March we should have a new, worlds fastest Dual GPU card.
Who of us on here is seriously thinking of getting one ?
What are the conditions that will secure a definite purchase ?

I can't see it happening, as pointed out in another thread, the 6990 is faster than 570 SLi, so they'd *have* to use 2 580s, and that is very unrealistic while keeping reasonable temps and power usage.

Whether a 590 actually turns up or not, I don't think it'll be the card taking the performance crown that a lot of people seem to think it'll be.

Personally i don't think we will have a new out right fastest dual gpu card. For that to happen the gtx590 will have to have 2xgtx580 cores running at pretty much full gtx580 core speeds. Check out this review theres a few games that swing heavily amd or nv but in the main the gtx580 sli is not really much faster and loses on occasion. Gtx570 sli is not really in the picture unless its one of those nv games.

I think Nvidia are saying screw the power and heat and will go all out to get the fastest single card title no matter what the result.
The 6990 will look much better value and much more practical after the 590 is released even if its a handful of fps behind.

I hope nv do say screw the power. Anyone who buys the card wont care anyway. As for heat, many will be putting it under water anyway

i'm in abit of a dilema actually ... buy 2 580s or hold of for a 590... then one day hope to buy a second one and sli ...could probly double up as a cooker. what you guys think really can't decide those twin frozer 580s look awesome.

or buy the rather hot 6990.

Well I just posted this in another thread but I guess this one is more active.

So does anyone know if it will be, or ever has been possible to triple SLI with an Nvidia dual GPU card and single GPU card?

2 6950s, unlocked to 6970s, rival 580 SLi performance for half the price. :D

i know this but ive been ati for 3 years kind of wanted to change to nvidia ignour the 6970s for now :P i have thought about it over and over again. but i have my heart set on the 580s or anything nvidia this time.

edit - also the first 580 practically buys itself with the money i sold my 5970 for ( which i loved) quite disapointed by the 6990.

No its never been done. With nvidia you need the same cards like gtx275 with gtx275. The gtx295 was 2xgtx275's but you could not sli it with a gtx275.

The main thing with nvidia and sli compatibility is the cards must be of the same name or they can't go in sli. Some people confuse this with vendors and think both cards need to be from the same vendor which is not true an evga gtx480 will happily sli with an msi gtx480.

Another thing in sli is if you have a stock card and say an oc model, the higher clocked card will only run at the stock clocked card.

I won't be getting one but I'm 100% sure it will be the fastest GFX card on the planet.

How though Raven? As kyles pointed out.. the 6990 beats 570 SLi. Two 580s on one board is going to draw insane levels of power and produce muchos heat, do you really see it happening?

The same performance, for twice the money though? Surely your quest to use nVidia isn't worth that? You'll be getting no extra performance.

Something to keep in mind if you are going with full cover waterblock/s, the total cost of such a setup might end up cheaper with a single card solution such as a 590.

Look Nvida will do 2x 580 cores maybe down clocked to 730 MHz, it will still beat out crossfire with some sweet new Nvidia drivers .

I full expect Raven to try and come up with something to claim the 6990 is vastly slower than 570 SLi.

Look, I really want vNidia to do 2x 580 cores maybe down clocked to 730 MHz, it must beat out crossfire with some sweet new Nvidia drivers, if it doesn't, then I'll flip-flop back to multi-GPU being worthless, and the 580 being the only thing that counts, because it's one GPU

Fixed for accuracy.
