Do you beleive in fate or is it just luck?

Of course I am. And it's not ludicrous, just scary because you hate the thought of having no power over your own existence, so your natural reaction is to call it ludicrious. It's a self-defence mechanism.

Why would I think its scary if fate pre determined everything I do, surely it would also determine that i wouldnt be scared of fate.

You do give me great enjoyment with your wacky beliefs though Lysander :p

I'm 99% sure it was you who maybe 3 years ago claimed he could move objects with his mind :p

Generally no, I don't believe in fate, but in one circumstance I do.

If you are in a relationship and it doesn't work out, then it just wasn't meant to be. Sure, different decisions could have been made and it might have gone on forever, but if it's going to fail. it's going to fail. I guess you could say that is 'fate'.

I can't believe there are so many 'scientifically minded' people in here that are prepared to accept 'luck' as a scientific concept.

It's just not tangible.

I also believe nothing is ever random - it's just we do not have the capability to predict what is going to happen until it does.

I can, and so can you. Lots of people have this power if approached with enough belief.

Do it and put a video on youtube then, you will make a million dollars.

The James Randi Educational Foundation offers US$1,000,000 to anyone who has a demonstrated media profile as well as the support from some member of the academic community, and who can produce a paranormal event, such as psychokinesis, in a controlled, mutually agreed upon experiment.

Maybe fate has predetermined that you shouldnt do this though for some reason ;)

As I said a few years ago, a video is out of the question. There would be no point - tons of people would scream 'fake' for scores of reasons. There are just too many skeptics to make it worth my time.

I'd like to believe that fate/destiny do exist.

Certainly feels that way for me now, been desperate to introduce myself to a girl who works locally, every time I've tried, she either wasn't there or just didn't get the chance, this has been going on for 6 months or so.

Anyway 3 weeks ago she actually came to my work for some help, so I said hi briefly. I added her on facebook as a friend had a quick chat but nothing substantial. Then 3 days later she text me and we've pretty much been texting non stop ever since. Meeting her for the first time tonight :)

To say im chuffed is an understatement, I couldn't ask for a better bird!

He seems to have ignored that bit.

Melvyn Bragg was discussing a similar topic on R4 this morning. Whether we have free will or are our lives already mapped out in front of us.

After my weekend im most certainly do believe in destiny/fate now. I met up with the girl mentioned in my previous post and to say im pleased is an under statement. We both clicked instantly and been getting on brilliantly infact there hasnt been 5 minutes where we havent been talking, texting or with each other.

I had seen her about for the past year or so as she worked locally and I only ever went in to the place in the hope that I might get the chance/have the bottle to say hi. 3 weeks ago she got sacked by a boss who didnt like her so she came to my work for advice, that was a sign for me to do something!

So I did, as I knew her name now I added her on facebook, she accepted, we sent a couple messages and that was that. 3-4 days later she texts me and well we havent stopped since :)

So to the boss who sacked her because he didnt like her.. Im gonna shake his hand when i see him next then punch him!. Ohh and we got her job back for her as well :)
