Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

Ah ok. Now you're both trolling. Make a new thread for it please :)

How am i trolling?

I'll play as long as i can when i'm at my friends place, can't say fairer than that

To those with Nvidia cards and wanting to run high detail let alone DX11 may run into some performance issues!

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/300/index/6420212/1

Does Not affect Ati cards

Currently waiting for an updated Nvidia Driver or Game Patch, the latest nvidia beta does not fix this :)

My other reply was for bhavv

Its ridiculous really, bioware completely nerf their once brilliant RPGs into this, and people simply accept it and demand that no one complain about it.

I suppose you've never looked into a Civilization fans forum and seen the amount of hate over Civ V being just *slightly* worse than Civ IV and not living up to their expectations.

When this kind of crap happens in strategy games, just about every fan of the game and genre go mad. Yet when it constantly keeps on happening in RPGs up to the point of the ridiculous amount of stupidization in DA2, everyone expects people to accept it, adapt to new 'RPGs for dummies' genre and not complain about it at all.

I want the cRPG genre back. Simple really.

Too many posts to respond too all but there is a simple answer to your concerns bhavy.

Consoles. Modern gamers want titles that they can spend an hour or two daily to satisfy their gaming needs. They either have not much spare time (responsibilities of adult life), never played truly long (and epic) games or don't want to spend much time playing single player as it doesn't give them the pleasure and instant kick of adrenaline they get from fragging in MW2.

Modern games are weak... But not all of them. Unfortunately EA is known from killing franchises (Command and Conquer anyone?) and Dragon Age might just be the next thing they'll slowly leading to extinction.

I don't think that if Dragon Age 2 turns out to be dumbed down to fit the console niche (I don't know much about the game, only had a limited number of hours in Dragon Age: Origins), people will not notice or don't complain. There's plenty of true RPG fans (and I don't mean some hardcore basement dwellers, just proper cRPG gamers, not those looking for a little stats added to a simple hack'n'slash fantasy game) who won't be satisfied with another action RPG.

PS I really think that Mass Effect are games full of joy and fun (with the second one focused even more on action and being more cinematic), I wouldn't think of these games as anything remotely connected to classic RPGs. Not that they pretend to be them anyway.

TBH, PC games, particularly ones by EA are now turning into this:

Notice the similarities with the marketing, hype, reviews, awards, and screaming fangirls :p

Yeah, tell me about.....my teenage daughter is into all that crap. Maybe I should buy DA2 for her :p

Honestly, the games industry has gone to ****.

Yea, I already know all that and thats why I rage.

Thats a good point, its funny how kids enjoy deeper and more complex games than adults do these days:

The only problem with that game is that its the equivalent of giving a kid crack for lunch with heroin for desert every day :p

There's another aspect to it. In the good old days, it was mostly old nerds and young kids who enjoyed gaming. Now that it has become mainstream (mostly in the lower and middle class), almost every household has a console and a member of family that plays video games. Adults seek quick entertainment that is enjoyed by majority and that spreads over to hardcore gamers as well. Hence we got MW2 (and other casual games) fans from across all markets.

Nah, buy her some Mozart, Chopin or Joplin instead :D

That would kill her social life instantly.

Ah well, you all continue this 'Dragon Age 2 is rubbish' circle jerk then, its semi-amusing at least :p

I'm merely debating, don't know or want to know anything about the game... yet. Never had a chance to get into Dragon Age 1 for long.

EA Fails to disclose securom in DA2

Those of you who know me, know that I love Dragon Age: Origins and the Dragon Age universe. You also know that I loathe DRM, especially SecuRom. You can imagine how dismayed I was when I read a Reclaim Your Game report today revealing that despite not disclosing the fact anywhere on the game packing or even in the 28-page EULA, disc-based copies of Dragon Age II contain the destructive, intrusive DRM known as SecuRom.

If a bad game couldnt possibly get any worse :X

95% for DA2 in this months PC Format, make of that what you will. It's either better than you're all expecting or they've had a decent bung off Bioware.

to summarise :

  • Superlative narrative and characters.
  • Gratuitous ultra violent combat.
  • Graphically and artistically stunning.
'A visceral, well-written and worthy sequel to an excellent game, with huge potential to become a modern classic.'

Tessellate This

'Bioware make use of the latest DirectX11 tesselation and compute shader tech in DA2, and was especially keen to create moody light and shadow environments.'
'DX10 graphics card owners can enable some of these effects, but expect a serious performance hit if you do. A trusty GTX280 struggled with ambient occlusion at high detail settings. Tesselation has been implemented on terrain textures, improving detail over large maps with some spectacular vistas'.

'All classes have a smorgsboard of ways to perforate and lacerate foes and each is hugely gratifying'.

95%

edge gave origins 3 I belive or something less then 5 so yeah..

They gave it 5, reviewed on Xbox so with the crappy console controls. They didn't like the uneven writing, lack of epic scope and specifically lack of a heroes journey as apparently almost the entire game is set in one town. They thought the controls were good.

UserReviews = Low - Average Scores
Online Game Review Sites and Magazines = High - Extreme Scores

Think i'll trust the UserReviews, even based on my play through this IS NOT a 95% title

Again, the average for it is about 80%, not 95%. User reviews are about 75-80% too.

Ranting people on random forums much like yourself and bhavv are giving it low scores, its being well received everywhere else.

Extreme scores? Not really.
