Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

95% for DA2 in this months PC Format, make of that what you will. It's either better than you're all expecting or they've had a decent bung off Bioware.

From EA, not Bioware. Bioware didnt want DA2 to turn out like this, EA made them do it (since according to Brents blog, everyone else at Bioware agreed with his dislike of the games direction, but they didnt want to lose their jobs).

I also just read that there are some nice easter eggs in DA2, particularly :

"Everythings getting simpler" and "Terrible two's indeed"

Again, the average for it is about 80%, not 95%. User reviews are about 75-80% too.

Ranting people on random forums much like yourself and bhavv are giving it low scores, its being well received everywhere else.

Extreme scores? Not really.

Actually User Reviews average 37% on metacritic

You can say that's because butthurt people rate it with 1-2 (and I'm sure you will), but on the flip-side, fanboys rate it 9-10 - then there's all the people who give it a realistic and fair rating, so regardless the average works out fairly. I've always found user reviews on metacritic to be an accurate reflection of every game I've played, so make of it what you will, but I don't believe DA2 will be the first exception to the rule. That's based on 624 ratings. I don't believe the majority of those people are 'random ranting forum trolls', like you imply. The PS3 and 360 user scores are no different, so there's no PC elitism going on either.

Anyone else having trouble installing this game? I got my copy in the post today and thought I'd just install it in preparation for unlocking tomorrow. It went through all the install but never gave me any options of where to install it and I can't see it anywhere on my drives. Has it installed? Is this EA's way of ensuring no-one plays it before the release date?

It should be in:

X:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age™ II

Mine installed fine but in order to log in to my account I had to disable my non existent floppy drive in the BIOS.

Didn't like the demo so much, played that on console - and it seemed a bit button mashy to me (works fine on God of War / Bayonetta etc. This game - not so much)

Just tried the demo on the PC, plays quite differently. On console you have to button mash for normal attacks, then hit the other buttons as cool downs permit. I hope the game is less crashy than the demo, that crashed once on PS3 and twice on PC for me.

Hope the game has some puzzles and exploration in it, felt a bit have a chat, follow a linear path while fighting some set pieces. have a chat.

I think I was last in this thread about page 12 and Bhavv is still spouting the same lines. Do you have a job or anything? You seem completely obsessed with this game

Bah can't run on very high with high res textures with spec in sig at 1920x1200 :( it goes to like 15fps or so lol.(Have to settle with high and high res textures.)

Anyone else who can't run completely maxed? i guess the high res textures is causing the most fps drop probably due to Bioware not fully testing them before releasing it.:o

nVidia beta drivers fix the god awful issues with this game somewhat, however.

I'm getting about 80-85% GPU usage no matter what settings I use
The jump from high to very high gets me from about 70 FPS to 10 FPS, even without all the extra boxes checked, I doubt this is what is supposed to happen.

Is the only solution to sit and wait for drivers/patches?

I'm at 2560x1440 with a GTX 570

EDIT: SYCHO, there is no difference in GPU usage or FPS if I uncheck or check the high res textures on high mode, and I have the pack installed, so either they don't work on high mode or something is wrong with them.

I think they are working as it looks a fair bit better than the demo.

Quite a nice game so far despite the whining i am enjoying it and i absolutely loved the first one.:D

I think people need to give it a chance rather than judge it from 20-30mins of gameplay.

AA is really killing perf, but it is playable again down at 2x, with all the other settings maxed. I don't think it looks as bad as some people have made out.

Lol, this game is having bad performance, seriously?

if you think that graphic is stunning, you eyes have some big problem. graphic is unacceptable. I was highly expected something like mass effect 2 quality. well, it's totally backward, and gets worst than DAO. I don't know what DA 2 team has done for two years. 90% of this game is totally junk. plus, don't get me wrong. I played this **** 11 hours so far. I found nothing exciting or impressed. I feel like being ripped off. the worst game I have ever played in my life. get it?

:p

And after the game has been released, people really dont seem to like what they got:

Oh wow, and I'm somehow magically unbanned from the bioware forums, yay ....

People were getting banned on the Bioware forums for criticizing the game, thankfully they were temporary:

I'm confused, the game didn't unlock until today, how have so many been playing it without pirating it?

Not unlocked until today in the UK.

It was released three days ago in the USA, or if you bought the UK version on steam, you can unlock it by using a US proxy.

Seeing as the game has both DRM, and requires you to maintain a forum account to play, and is hardly up to the standard of Biowares earlier games, I wouldnt really blame people for not wanting to pay for this game in the first place and finding some other means of getting it.

Not that I would do something like that, but this game looks like it is setting itself up to be a pure pirate magnet.

End of the day then, people that complain but have pirated it only have themselves to blame. If loads of people pirate it Bioware will still believe people want that sort of game but just want to pirate it, or at least will still argue that point. If no one bought it at all then they would take note.
