Earthquake in Japan....9.0...ouch!

The thing is with the after shocks is that they are so far under ground they are not noticable on the surface.

Kyodo News Agency: Three people exposed to radiation at Fukushima nuclear plant following explosion triggered by earthquake

Hopefully they haven't been exposed to an extreme level. If you come into direct contact what can they do? Are those workers in trouble?

Indeed, people i've been in touch with have all said there are numerous aftershocks they can feel. Doesn't make sleeping easy at all!

Very true. I was woken up by the earthquake alarm on my phone at 4am last night, and my bed started shaking quite violently about 5 seconds later. I just turned the earthquake alarm off though so i hope I can sleep through any aftershocks that happen tonight and get a good nights sleep.

I think there will be several people working to fix the cooling in extremely dangerous conditions. THey really have to get the cooling fixed because the situation is just getting worse without it, with even less protection now work around the plant will have become more dangerous, however there would probably have been people required to go inside that containment building anyway and so they might actually be in less danger as theres less pressure and maybe less radiation built up than there could have been.

I reckon there will be several engineers there who basically sacrifice their lives trying to prevent a huge catastrophy, when something goes wrong at a nuclear plant it takes a damn brave person to go in and try and fix things.

This was on BBC: 1459: At least three residents evacuated from a town near quake-hit Fukushima No. 1 plant have been exposed to radiation, both Kyodo and NHK report.

No word on just how bad the exposure is though.

I really don't think this will be the case at all. The RPV is well shielded and it is unlikely there will be anyone in that close a proximity anyway. The diesels themselves are away from the Reactor in a separate building. This is done in the case of an aircraft impact so that all the key services aren't located in the same building, it spreads/disperses the risk.

Very true, its part of the price humanity pays for progress however and one I think we should all take, harnising natures greatest powers was never going to be an easy feat.
