Cooler Master 330 with Asus P7H55 Not Working

Yes it's on when the system is on not when the system is off but power is connected.

I've built many PC's over the years. On none of them is the power LED on unless the system is actually running.

There's something wrong with the wiring. Check you've connected the front panel connectors to the motherboard correctly and check that there isn't some mistake in the case wiring, i.e. that the power switch is actually connected to the power wire etc.

A test you can do is firstly disconnect all the front panel connectors from the motherboard. You can then try and start the PC by bridging the two pins on the motherboard for the power switch with a small flat bladed screwdriver. You only need to touch them you don't have to hold the screwdriver there. If it doesn't start using this method then you have other problems.

Anyway, off to work now so good luck.

And check that wiring.

According to the manual, the motherboard's power LED is on when the system is on, standby or soft-off mode. In other words, I think it's always on as long as the power cable's in the back and the on/off switch at the back is on. The problem at the moment is with the on/off switch on the front panel, which should start up the machine and currently does nothing. It seems like it's stuck in soft-off mode.

I have the same case/psu combo as you and a similar asus mobo for amd. The powerlight on the board should indeed be on from the time you switch on the main power switch on the rear of the psu.
Can't see why you'd need to remove the mobo to replace the gfx, unless youd forgotten the mob struts which is actually something I did at first! Thankfully realised the error before first attempt to post!
Good luck!

Thanks. I keep checking the front panel plugs and think they're in the right way and everything is in securely so I'm going to try bridging the pins as you suggest, Surveyor. Sounds like a good tip. If that doesn't work, I'll just send it back as it's brand new and shouldn't have faults. I'm at work now but will be home and able to give it a go in around 10 hours so I'll let you know how I get on! Thanks again, everyone.

Wrong. If only using two sticks of ram they need to go in the light blue slots which are A1 and B1. I just downloaded and checked his manual. Exactly the same with my board. A1 and A2 would also be only single channel.

Ecery pc i have built will have a power led that lights up when the psu is plugged it and turned on, but while the system is "shutdown". this is fir dells/hp's, asus boards and abit boards.

@op have you tried the power switch connector on the other way round? Its worth a go and it wont break anything. It could also be a faulty power switch, had that on a system before where we swapped out all but hte mobo, then boughta new mobo, thenfound out the switch was buggered. You can diagnose this by connecting the reset switch to the power switch header and seeing if it works.

Connect it up to your TV and try turning it on with only one stick of ram (the other one that you ahvent tried yet) and try it in a different ram slot.

You could also re-seat the CPU fan heatsink, that can cause a machine not to start when everything else is looking ok.

OK so here's the latest: I've unplugged the gfx card, hard drive, blu-ray drive and RAM. Still nothing. I put one RAM into slot A1. Nothing. I've tried reversing the power plug so ground and live are the other way around. I've also tried re-fitting the CPU fan heatsink. I've even tried bridging the power pins with a flat screwdriver. I've just removed the battery to reset the mobo CMOS but after two days of failure I'm beginning to think it's a dodgy mobo that I'll have to send back to *******! I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks everyone as always!

Taking out the battery for 25 mins and replacing was no good either. Does bridging the pins with a screwdriver definitely work if the mobo is OK? If so, then the mobo must be the problem?

i've had 2 of these psu's that come with the elite 330 be doa :( it may not be the motherboard, do you have another psu to try in it ?

Thanks. At least that some reassurance that I'm not just doing something stupid and that there is a history of PSU problems with this kit. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare power supply so I've got to go through the massive inconvenience of dismantling and lugging it down to the post office to send back! Maybe in the future I'll swallow the extra cost of buying the PSU and case separately!

Final update: I sent the case w/ PSU back to the retailer who have now confirmed that it's faulty. Thanks again everyone for all your help. I would have been lost without it!
