Just giving anyone who doesn't want to break the bank on CPU cooler a heads up on this Cooler Master cooler. Bought this just over a month ago for £12.49, it's basically the cheapest non-stock heat-sink that Overclockers stock, before then I was using AMD's stock cooler which idled around 30-35C and went up to 60-65C under load on an overclocked Phenom II X4 945 at 3.75Ghz.

With this cooler i'm getting around 18-21C while idling and browsing the internet in a 20-22C hot room and around 40-45C under load, pretty impressive for a £13 bit of kit I think. Here's a picture of the idle temperature:

Only downside is it's quite fiddly to work with, especially if you have big hands like myself. Managed to **** it up 1st time trying to line up all the mountings so had to take it off, wipe all the thermal compound off and re-fit it. I also used the thermal paste supplied with it, i'm assuming if i'd have used something like the Diamond 24 Carat compound my temps would be even lower though that costs £15, which is more than the cooler itself.

Will do a Prime95 run tomorrow when I get back from work to see how well it fares, so far for gaming and general use it's been excellent.

Anyway, sorry to sound like an advert but I just can't get over the amazing results this cheap bit of kit has provided!

It is good for the money, I used one on a mildly oced quad for a year. Then went to a hex and D14, which is both quieter and cooler so I wouldn't say the TX3 is a substitute for a higher end cooler.. wouldn't want to use it on an oced hex. Very good budget quad HS though.

So let me get this right...

Your stating that this is cooling your CPU below your ambient room temp? by 2-3°C? :P

think your temps are messed up dude

I can vouch for it, my phenom 965be is overclocked to 4.2ghz from 3.4ghz, and the temperatures are better than the stock cooler at 3.4ghz, and a waaaaaaay quieter. 59-60 degrees under prime for several hours.

Excellent cooler

Its cheap and cheerful but a decent upgrade from the joke of a heatsink AMD give you with there CPUs.

Core temp gives you a rough idea but it isn't comparable because it's software generated. The higher the temp the smaller the difference between core and socket temp. You really need to be ignoring core temp and just stick to cpu (socket) temp.

FYI I used an acoustifan on mine and the temps were still acceptable at much lower noise levels.

Great cooler for the money.

On my old board, temps at 3.4GHz 1.4V on this CPU were 25*c idle, 40*c absolute max.

On this new board, showing as 40*c idle (Asus boards have broken sensors that don't go far below 40*c in my experience) and 50*c load.

All for £12.49 delivered :D
