Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

played another few hours. It's definitely getting more interesting.

I'm using high-res textures and it does look very nice actually. It's not a terrible game. it's just when you compare it to origins..

i do get the impression that it was slightly rushed.

Thats because it was, the music designer for the game said so himself :(

Yeah i know it was. But playing it, you can actually tell:)

installing a new mobo tomorrow, hopefully i can just copy/paste the savegame. i don't want to go through the first 2-3 hours again so soon. God they were slow...

Its worth playing at least.

Look at it this way, afte I completed DA 2 I went back to fable 3 to complete it, I wanted to shoot myself.

Glad I didn't buy this tbh. The demo would barely run on my rig... not sure what that's about but I've heard nothing but bad things about this game. Maybe a Steam bargain buy later in the year

Completed it yesterday.

Did anyone else think certain parts of the story were ridiculous near the end of the game. One party member inparticular, when you find out what they did just left me thinking **** *** ****??!!!

Still......It had its funny moments and i found the characters interesting for the most part.

its the dx 11 renderer, its broken. Take it down to dx 9 untill they patch it.

The thing that annoyed me about this was that you could not change what he does in any way what so ever. Its the same with the elf mage, you cant stop her from doing what she does.

Im under the impression they are forcing these outcomes because they intend them to be major plot points in the next game.

Finished it last night (after rushing through the last section of the game as I was tired of waves upon waves of mobs lol).

The pros:
- character development - for most part I was quite impressed with how it was handled, although getting that one particular character do what he did at the end of the game left me flabbergasted as e was my love interest - needless to say he faced the blade

- the story - once you realise the game is spread over 7 years you will understand why the game doesn't have a defined storyline. The final conflict is there from the very beginning (although at background level), but the game isn't about it - it's about how you rose to the title of Champion of Kirkwall and that it tells impeccably. Some events (related to your mother for example) made me wish my enemies long and painful deaths (lo and behold, being a blood mage I delivered :P), others left a really warm feeling inside. If that ain't excellent story telling, I don't know what is

- graphics - bar the annoying dx11 related freeze ups the effects were actually quite good

- boss fights - for a single player game very involving and having a WoW feel to them (a good thing) - granted, I found it ridiculous that the last two bosses were nothing compared to the likes of Pride Demon, High Dragon and Ancient Rock Wraith, but I enjoyed figuring out every fight (played on hard)

- crafting - a vast improvement over DAO's 'I need hundred of this weed and fifty of the other to get enough potions to last me a lifetime'

The cons

- the recycling of maps - Chris Priestly once said that the game takes up less memory than DAO because of better compression - by better compression I guess he meant compressing the number of locations you visit AND recycling the maps in very obvious ways

- I'm openly a blood mage (and nobody seems to mind), fighting other blood mages...what? One bit of the story that really nagged me

- bugs - loads of them, some game breaking (get Vael to friendly the add and remove him from your party and watch your damage resistance go into negatives, same with Isabella and attack speed), some ridiculous (maker's sigh from black emporium giving you nigh on limitless number of ability points)...going to wait until Bioware fixes the game before I try it again

- tedious trash mobs - mainly of the demon kind (cause they were immune to pulling and pushing lol)

something that slightly annoys me-
Bethany keeps mentioning that she hopes the templars will not find out she'e a mage.
Well stop walking around with a massive staff on your back then!!!

i have to say that it is picking up a bit now.

once you caome back from the deep roads, the story does slightly gather pace.

seems to me that there are lots of different outcomes, so they have spread the content out that way, which is not something that particularly appeals to me tbh, but it is improving.

btw, what is this directx 11 problem everyone keeps mentioning?
i haven't had any problems so far, apart from the odd drop in frame rate

I'd agree with the 7/10 score especially if you considered it just as a stand alone game without ever playing Origins.
Compared to Origins I'd give it a 4/10.
One thing that did annoy me was the fact I couldn't romance Bethany, if they give us homosexuality I want incest damnit!
Ah well there's always Sandal.....Enchantment!

You see, I want to buy this game but I feel that £25-£30 is quite expensive.

I wont to buy:

DA2
Crysis 2
Shogun 2

But £30 for each is £90 and 3 pc games is not worth £90!!

Thats just greed by the developers. Only games in my opinion that are worth £30 are games with a multiplayer which you can play for years. SP games, are not worth £30.....

Considering my local shop sells crisps for a quid, and it costs about £12 to go watch a film at the cinema, £25 quid for a 50 hour + game is bloody good if you ask me.

Dare I ask how much money you spent on that rig that you have listed proudly in your sig? .... And you are moaning about 25 quid? :p

Games cost millions to make regardless of wether or not they have a multiplayer mode. Not including one does not halve development cost.

Despite games generally costing more to make now, they're as cheap (with a certain publisher excluded) as they've ever been. Especially after inflation.

It's not greed on the developers part. If you don't want to play on release, just wait for the sale.

i don't think that £30 for any new game is particularly unreasonable tbh.
especially for either multiplayer or a long game, say 25+ hours.

and of the games mentioned, Crysis 2 and shogun have multiplayer, and dragon age 2 is over 30 hours long

I have completed it and I have to say it simply does not compare to Origins in my opinion. That is not to say it's a bad game, as it's not, I enjoyed it. They should have called it Dragon Age: Champion of Kirkwall, not Dragon Age 2.

Shogun 2 has multiplayer, and I'm pretty sure the SP will soon be moddable as well (based on past titles in the series) if you get bored of the stock settings\units\default clan setup.
