Can anyone give me an accurate price on the UK cruise missiles?

They cost £600,000 per Missile. That is total unit cost.

US-built Tomahawk is deployed in all RN Attack submarines.

In 1995, the first export order for Tomahawk missiles was announced, with the UK ordering 65 missiles, Advanced Tomahawk Weapon Control Systems for seven boats, and a shore-based mission planning system.

The missiles are UGM-109C TLAM-C versions to the Block 3/4 build standard, to be launched from standard torpedo tubes.

The UK fired 20 missiles against targets in Serbia in early 1999, with more missiles fired against Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. Tomahawk has a range of up to 1,700kms.

In February 2006 it was disclosed that Tomahawk missiles had been purchased as follows: 1997 – 48; 1998 – 17; 1999 – 0; 2000 – 0; 2001 – 20; 2002 – 0; 2003 – 22; 2006 – 64 x Block IV.

Average cost of a Block IV Missile is believed to be in the region of £600,000.

Thing is man power costs a huge amount and we are trying to cut costs and missions. UN has sanctioned this. Cruise missiles although expensive are a fixed cost and not a yearly burden. everyone can list a whole list of pros and cons, but at the end of the day government has decided to cut expenditure.

I don't really care about the UN to be fair? Nor did I mention it? Neither has this universal approval. Neither should the UN intervene in a matter of internal problems.

Pro's and con's?

Sacking people insensitively on the front line while firing off missiles worth 5 figures like confetti in something WE actually don't need to be involved in somewhere else?

Again, why the selectiveness in world justice? Why not the other nations next door using state violence against citizens?

Oh yeah, they were buying arms off of Dave weren't they. Silly me.

You might not care about UN, nor do I, but the world as a whole do. Different budgets, different slices of pie and different missions. we can not send troops in.
Violence in a totally different capacity and form.

I don't believe it is about regime change, if Gaddafi calms the head then I think partition of Libya into two separate states may well be the likely outcome. Though if he goes it will be viewed as a bonus.

How does all this action that is being taken work without regime change?

UK only fired 2. US fired the rest (skynews).

Hmmm. Seems rather token.

Those tornados done some distance!

I still wish we could move beyond interfering. We cut training on these pilots and i'd rather we didn't, and stop stuff like this.

We should simply leave it to other people if they must. Canada?
