Thing is you can only work with what you've got, we can only launch these from our Submarines, which at the moment only seem to have 1x in the med.

Think you only get 8 - 10 tubes and these are pre loaded, AFAIK you can't simply load more at sea you need to head back to dock.

I wasn't aware what we had close by...so we only have 1 submarine within firing distance?

Blimey, just had a look on the map on the BBC. You think that all of this is going on the other side of the world... it's actually really, really close to home.

Difficult to get to the bottom of what they are saying, but Libya press conference going on now appears to indicate that they are calling a ceasefire and are willing to open diplomatic talks with the rebels.

Confirmed that the armed forces are calling a ceasefire.

Given todays events, one would hope they are a bit more serious about it this time...

Here's hoping for a safe return for all our lads...

Would have to agree with that. With the US getting cold feet, the Arab league laughing at us for listening to them, and the talk of sending ground troops, the sooner we are done the better.

He's talking big again

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20110320/twl-gaddafi-threatens-attacks-in-mediter-3fd0ae9.html

Sky's foreign affairs editor Tim Marshall said: "Gaddafi knows that if the battle lines are frozen and he pulls back his forces, it's only a matter of time before the rebels are fully armed by outside powers.

"They would then probably make another attempt to reach Tripoli.

"So he can try to fight for Benghazi and Misratah - but he knows that his supply lines will be cut by the coalition planes.

"So he could move either to guerilla war in the towns he doesn't control, or retaliate against the European powers attacking him through terrorism."

Hopefully not, although a no fly zone has been sanctioned and we can protect civilians, I don;t think the UN sanctions go as far to say we can stop fighting or, destroy supply chains. I really don't think we should be interfering that much. we should be doing what we can to stop needless slaughter. But that's it. The countrys opinion is split and it's upto them to sort it out. Although obviously UN can do certain diplomatic stuff to help form an agreement.

it's also time for UN to expand and set up some sort of world policy with strict guidlines of what to get involved in and what not to. Either they need to get money from all involved nations or be able to requisition military hardware/personnel some how.

im not a blair fan really but i do think he did the right thing by trying to bring ol gaddaf back out of the cold, leaving states out of the world is how you get an Iran or North Korea, and I guess it didnt work out but at least he tried!

edit to the above post, from the sound of the airstrikes they have only taken out air defenses and tanks which were threatening Benghazi

How does a no fly zone protect civilians from mercenaries driving around in cars?

It's meant to stop planes using bombs on protests lines and it also allows for real time surveillance, we can then within the sanctions launch attacks on forces that are killing civilians.

For lone men driving around in cars it allows fighter planes to be up in the air and if we capture it, and we are close enough to launch guided munitions at the car in question.

How do you know who is in the car!

You really have been lapping up the briefings haven't you.

it makes no difference who is in the car. Why would it, we have Un sanctions that allow us to use force to protect civilians.

No because I haven't been watching the news, I know very little of the official line, other than the basics of what Un have said. No fly zone, No troops whatsoever and can use force to protect civilians.

Compared to your line as there msut be alternative motives and that a no fly zone has no use. even though it clearly does as pointed out.
