IG 32 as opposed to 28 for the 1.4.

Insurers don't care about engine sizes, Have you done a quote for a 2.0 for comparison NathWraith?

im going off what he has been researching and told me. anything with a 2.0 NA seems mental money insurance wise compared to these 1.4/1.6 TC engines. obviously this only applies to the cars he has ran quotes on, but its there.

Factor in ease of entry for thieves and much worse protection in an accident and it doesn't make sense.

Ah yes but all are euro 5 ncap with the alfa being th safest. MX5 has side airbags as standard same as scirocco. The MX5 I would choose would be a hardtop not a rag top so would be no harder to get into.

PX values, I have no idea as of yet as there is little point asking until the point of purchase!

this is very true.

It is yes - but there is one provision - your car must be something they would retail themselves as an approved used car. This means that in Naths case, where I assume he has a very new low mileage Polo, VW would be more interested in it than anyone else as they can retail it as an approved used car, whereas other marques would be more likely to send it to auction or get the deal underwritten elsewhere (Though some will sell other marques).

Obviously if you turn up with a 10 year old Passat then it wont make much difference and they wont be prepared to bid you extra because it's a VW.

As for Scirroco v VW, I'm a huge build quality snob so personally I would have a Scirocco over an MX5. But if you are not afflicted with my fussyness the MX5 is a more sporting car and would be a great choice.

'The rear wheel drive, open top 2 seater sports car is the sensible option for sure. I'll take the front wheel drive mid sized hatchback'

Is basically what you just said :p

Correct.

That "mid-sized hatchback" is Italian. And an Alfa at that, compared to every other mid-sized hatch it's not the obvious, sensible, choice it's one you choose with your heart not your head. The MX-5 will be better built, and cheaper in the long run as a result as well as being significantly less hassle to own. As a result the head says MX-5

But my heart always rules my head, so I would buy the Alfa.

The strange was regarding the interior I could hardly tell any difference between VW and Mazda. Both very well laid out, refined and functional.

Mx5 while you still can! Leave the hatchbacks until you need the space.

Oh and please stop saying 'win' and 'fail' its cringey. Nothing worse than hearing internet memes mid sentence as an actual word!

Out of those three, i'd have the MX5. All three cars are similar in power so i'd take the RWD convertible roadster, but only in hard-top form.

Of course, although you can't afford the insurance, if you bumped the Scirocco to the 2.0TSI or the Giulietta to the 1.75TBi i'd have that car instead.

The Alfa and the Scirocco are both excellent cars, but my money would be going on the MX5 if you can do without the practicality of the other two.

There really isn't much that beats driving with the hood down on a sunny, warm day.

2L Sport Tech Coupe. The sloshmatic should be binned and go with the manual. Sport Tech has every option on it and is epic fun and the hard top is quieter, though not saloon car quiet. If I were you I'd got metalicy silvery......we did.

Then get it down to a geo specialist to have it put right and don't forget to take the extra 10 or so psi out of each tyre that all dealers seem to put in for reasons I fail to understand. Then you have a car that's set up like it's supposed to be. Not perfect, lots of little flaws but great fun as a brisk drive with the roof down reminded me yesterday.

Yeah man, that is the exact colour I'd go for, look amazing with the chrome grill. Still need to try the manual out but if the auto is anything to go by!

For me its simple out of those 3, its the MX5. :)

Basically buy the car which you enjoyed been behind the wheel most, buy the one you feel that would make you smile everytime you started it in the morning. :)
