Gone on - spill the beans :)

Should have got 11t wheels :p

^^ This. Should have got 11t wheels. I entered the Open cat and was about 15th out of 55 people, 1.5 laps in. Then the chain started to roll over the lower jockey wheel and I had to keep stopping to put chain back on.

I came 32nd by the end and swore a lot! I now need a Sram X0 cage kit as the chain has gone through the carbon. £90. Either selling the bike as tbh I’ve had enough or getting a X9 rear mech. - not from CRC

:rolleyes::mad:

From what you describe you may be better off with a long travel freeride bike, the nomad is perfectly suited to this and can easily be ridden for long day rides as well as the occasional downhill blast but the uzzi and probably the ss2 less so as they are a little heavy! For trail riding.

Thanks for the input, its a difficult choice as i have started doing more downhill but i also use the one bike for everything even going to work every day.

Think the Nomad looks a good frame. Think Evens sell these so will have to go see what frame size is right im thinking medium will be right for me being 5'10"

Yes you will be a medium, I would not go large unless you are over 6' Doubt any evens stores will hold stock of a Nomad it will be a special order item.

Just phoned a couple of stores, they are a special order item, but they agree according to santa cruz 5,10 is the top end scale for the medium frame but if im fitting 180 forks it will mover the top tube height up.

Best get saving now then.

Its only going to be marginal geometry change, and to be honest you can compensate in a few ways Zero stack headset, Angleset, less spacers under your stem.

Aye you better had get saving its an expensive frame when you will of course want to be running a Cane Creek Double Barrel on it :D

Are they that much better than the fox unit that comes with the frame?

Looking into buying a bike for commuting but possibly the odd off-road use. Not looking to spend a fortune but don't want to buy cheap and be left with something broken either.

Looking second hand and came across the following. 2 questions, how suitable do you think it is for daily commuting and for the off bit of use elsewhere as I fancy it? It's being advertised at around £350, seems reasonable or not?

Commencal Combi-Disc

Frame: Updated Combi disc NUTS AL
Fork: Custom White Rock Shox Tora SL lockout 100mm
Stem: Race Face Ride XC
Handlebar: Commencal 6061 DB
Brakes: Avid Juicy 3 160/160
Shifters: Sram Trigger X5 3x9
Front der: Shimano Deore
Rear der: Sram X7
Crankset: Truvativ Isoflow power spline 44x32x22
Seatpost: Commencal 6061
Saddle: SDG Bel Air Black & White
Hubs: Commencal disc brake / Shimano M475
Rims: Jalco double wall disc specific white powder coating
Tires: Geax Saguaro 26x2.00

Cheers in advance.

Have to find somewhere to buy the frame that will do an upgrade on the shock then. Is it worth spending the extra on the carbon frame?

You would have to buy the shock separate, its not an option part for the Nomad but well worth it. As for the carbon in my opinion it is way over priced for the weight saving on the alu and is ugly!

...and is ugly!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

That's reet nice that is!

I have fears about carbon frames just not being as strong and flexing too much, its not even that much lighter.

Is that Intense just a copy of the Nomad, looks virtually the same, but heavier.

Carbon is stronger and stiffer, but yes the weight saving isn't huge well not worth the extra £700 anyway!

Yes pretty much a Nomad except better made (by hand you know!) :D

Is it really? Might consider that, and chain reaction sell Intense frames.
Going to have to compare the two, seeing as you have one, what are the differences between the Nomad and the Tracer 2?

The point of Carbon bikes (well certainly in the case of the Santa Cruz V10) is not to be lighter, but to use even more material, creating a stronger bike, than it's alu counterpart.

It should in theory also be stiffer, while supposedly dispersing terrian feedback better than alu.
The fact is that Carbon as a material is coming into it's own and will be becoming more and more popular.

The Tracer 2 is in between the Blur LT and the Nomad. Nomad takes up to 180mm forks and the Tracer2 160mm forks. Slightly different geometry too.

Both need coil shocks. Well the Nomad does anyway, I havent ridden the Tracer2...yet. :D

Yip... My Blur XCc is much stiffer than the Heckler.:cool:
