***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

Pausing isn't cheating. The AI carries out all its moves the instant it knows to make them, whereas we're limited to having to fly the camera around, look at whats going on then move units as neccessary

Completed my first campaign and captured all regions (Shimazu clan, normal difficulty). Can't wait to start my next campaign on a higher difficulty, but think I might wait for the Dx11 patch and realm divide to be made optional or modded out. Never managed to capture the Black Ship - was fun watching it blow my ships to shreads :p. Certainly learned a lot from this campaign about which regions to capture and agents to use (I find monks and ninjas to be very useful).

So this game is wating for a dx11 patch?

Im interested in rts games, but for some reason all the previous TW series games have turned me off.

This one looks good... and im tempted to buy it.

Is it worth it, from a single player perspective?

>>> Implying that AI needs time to think their next moves through <<<

Well yes the computer capable of making strategies in an instant. And I think you've completely lost the argument by saying flying around the map isn't cheating. Both are totally unrealistic and if you want realism you shouldn't do either.

I always say, if the game allows you to do with out entering hidden codes, it ain’t cheating.

Since when realism=fair game in Total War games? AI has plenty of aces to compensate. If you want realistic battles, get into multiplayer community (and get your ass kicked).

Saying that, I only use pause when I'm too tired to assess the situation or the battle is large enough and taking place in different areas of the map to get lost easily. Total War isn't Starcraft and simultaneous orders can only be given by pausing the game. Bear in mind that realistically you'd have different generals bound to different battalions/divisions/units/cohorts/legions/Sonae/whatever.

And I have not said anything about flying around the map thus I assume that comment wasn't directed at me? (in which case I'm not sure which part of your post is a reply to my comment at all...)

How do you guys think my PC would run this? The demo ran quite well until I zoomed into close combat, it dropped below 15 fps then. :(

Half way through a campaign and the game has decided to crash a few minutes after I try and load (every time!). Weird cos it was fine the other day. Oh well, just gives me another reason to blame Steam for something.

(Yes I pre-ordered the DVD version, got delivered, tried to install and wasnt recognise so had to spend the best part of a day downloading. 21st century technology doesnt always take us forward ;) )

Rant aside, this is a brilliant game, and Chives I think you should be more than ok to run at medium levels of detail. Particularly if you are willing to overclock your graphics card or upgrade it?

I remember previous titles when you could be restricted to the "generals view" - certainly added to the challenge!

Mine runs the game better than it did the demo :D

Usually the case with Total War games :)

I'm really sorry to ask this guys, as it smacks of laziness on my part... but now that people have been able to check the game out, I'd like to ask TW veterans if it's a worthwhile purchase? If you've played any of the previous TW games before, where does Shogun 2 rank, or how does it compare?

Basically, I trust the opinions of you fellas far more than the majority of review sites out there! I'm itching for some Total Warring, and would love to buy this, but am a little hesitant after not liking ETW out of the box.

Buy it. Its a return to the old days - fewer unit types and smaller map but more emphasis on diplomacy, tactics etc.

I know everyone bashes empire, but I think that was a great game on its own merits. Shogun 2 is more fun though, as its back to good old fashioned hand to hand combat. And I think the fact that you can have 'drop-in' opponents is brilliant, making the campaign even more challenging.
