Harsh ruling or fair?

That's like saying "why punish someone for having sex"
Because it's not just sex... it's illegal sex

But they didn't know it was illegal? The girls initiated it and lied about their age.

"These girls were entirely unknown to you. You saw these girls as willing sexual partners, which they were, and behaved towards them as if they were simply pieces of flesh, not people.

"By acting as you did, you will have confirmed in them twisted views of what sex is about and further entrenched in them thoroughly inappropriate behaviour."

Is this not what a gang bang in a park consists of? In this case, were the girls not treating the men like "pieces of flesh" too? I thought that was the idea of such a scenario?

If we were in that court we would all know the reasons why a jury gave them 2 years.

It's very easy to speculate without having been there and seen the evidence. After finishing my jury service and explaining to my friends some of the details they all immediately drew their conclusions and punishments from probably about 10-15% of the evidence/information that I was able to relay after the trial was finished.

I'm not quite sure what I make of a minor being able to be just as responsible ('we can have 3 each' and from what we've seen inviting them for a game of hide the sausage) but yet go unpunished after turning someones life upside down.

If they aren't driving or don't have a provisional, keep it in your pants.

I never said that they didn't. I was replying to a post claiming that the girls were at no fault because all they did was offer sex, which is obviously incorrect, as they offered sex with an underage person, which is illegal

Now go and read my whole post properly and stop taking stuff out of context, that line was clearly paraphrasing someone.
What the girls did wasn't illegal, what the boys did, was.

This is ridiculous from both stances, the law has gone mad and so have people.
Not defending them before you jump on me, it's a touchy subject but from what I read, these girls wanted it? Eugh the whole article make me mad.

Logic is thrown out the window, set on fire, urinated on and left to fester in the sun.
They use terms towards the case these girls may have future mental issues, as if other countries don't have lower legal ages. Just because man and society has set a limit does not mean it's going to cause natural complications of the human mind.

My stance, feel offended or not, is that these girls clearly knew what they were getting in to, there are so many smart and mature minded young people out there who are also still very naive and stupid in other areas both at the same time.

Although from current threads here, it sounds like a lot of people were complete bluffing retards in their early teens. I don't ever remember being so damned stupid, still naive and learning wisdom but I had common sense. Heck, who didn't know about sex at that age?! To act on it... is another thing.

To punish one party is wrong.

Even if they were 15 years and 360 days old, it's illegal, I don't agree one party should get off like that when they pretty much were up for it.
They lied and put people in the slammer, I can't give two plums if "OMG THERE'S NOWAY A HUMAN OF THAT AGE CAN'T LOOK OLDER" when we very well know we can.

I can't help but think this is just the beginning of being their career of sleazy men ruining.

In order to punish someone, you have to make them responsible for their actions, by default children are not responsible only adults are. The same way you can't expect a one year old to know right from wrong.
If they are acting this way, it's their parents fault.
Initiating sex might look like being responsible, but it isn't, we all agreed to making a cutoff of 16 so it's up to us as adults to make sure we are following that.
OK it's harder now that people have sex at a younger age, but tough titty, it's still their choice to do that, nobody is twisting their arm.
I can't help but think this is just the beginning of being their career of sleazy men ruining.
I can't help thinking those boys are just the kind who would have raped somebody someday - no self control, no concern. What kind of freak wants to gang bang somebody anyway?

Why even attempt to liken it to a one year old? Do you know how condescening it is to categorically suggest that all "children" don't know what they're doing, simply because they're 12? I knew the difference between right and wrong a long time before I was 12.

Complete and utter crap, just because the law says it doesn't recognise a "child's" ability to see the difference between right and wrong, doesn't mean it's the parents' fault for their child's behavior. Many children completely refuse to listen to their parents, no matter what they do, is this also the parents' fault too? What else can they do short of giving the child a beating to scare them "good"?

Really, these types of threads bring the foolishness in an otherwise seemingly rational adult. I'm not condoning their actions, but your comparisons are so arbitrary. You're suggesting that there's something wrong with these people for liking something you don't like yourself, in the most simplest terms. It's the same type of thinking used to label gay people "sexual deviants" or the assumption a lot of men have of gay people, that all gay men will fancy them so they must stand with their backs to the wall at all times.

all gay men will fancy them so they must stand with their backs to the wall at all times.

To be fair, I have had a fair few gay guys approach me when I'm out partying, despite being 100% straight simply because I'm often dressed smart but with colourful (solid) shirts, and a tie

The topic of conversation isn't "Was this illegal?" it's "Was this fair?"

"why punish the girls for offering sex?"

Don't you think the scenario is a little bit ludicrous? Psychological damage aside, girls under 13 currently have the power to put men in prison by waving their ladygarden around and trying to get men to put their snakes in. It seems quite clear that the girls knew what they were doing, but they aren't prosecuted while the men are.

Very sensible post. It makes you wonder just how people would react in an alternate situation of say, a girl who is 20 but looks 12/13, which as we know, also does and can happen. Would anyone who entered in to a relationship with her be labeled a pervert or "pedophile" purely on the basis of her appearance, while disregarding he actual age?

I know it's an imaginary example, but I do think it's a valid point when challenging the logic of a lot of posters in this thread.

I assume they probably knew she was underage and ignored it. Banging a 12 year old is low. They all want locking up, including the girl.

Hey, I didn't say no gay men! I'm talking about the ones who think a gay man is lustful of every other man on the planet, and all they want to do is bum them. :p

Which I'm sure is something you're aware of, either that or you're a closet gay and they can sense it. :p

Well I want to have sex with all good looking girls, so why would it not work the other way?

Because it's based on what you deem to be "good looking". The example is, men thinking all gay men find all men sexually attractive. You don't find all women sexually attractive do you? Even if you did, it wouldn't prove the point that it's true that all gay men are the same about all men.

I think the guys were hard done by. True they should have shown more common sense rather than taking the bait like that, but its fairly obvious those girls knew what they were doing and werent truly raped. Maybe the law says they were, but anyone with an ouce of common sense knows they wern't.

They should be put in a young offenders institute for their part in the sordid mess.

Well there are always borderline cases, but I do not class my self as borderline on looks ... I KNOW I look good :)

Fixed, because while you may *think* you look good, not everyone else will do. It's the way the world works.
