Xbox 360 & PS3 vs PC graphics

More importantly, they are holding back the industry and we are overdue for new hardware.

Only holding back the industry in the very narrow field of faster componants. That's a very small proportion of the games industry, in many ways they are leading the industry in a lot of other areas.

Swear we get about ten of these threads a week, they serve no purpose. You cannot do a direct comparison of specs between a console and a PC.

Oh no, not another thread you don't have to read/post in if you don't want to. Surely not!

Is it ok with you if we participate in this discussion or would you rather everyone just stick to topics that you pre-approve?

To be honest, you don't need that beefy a PC to play DX9 games at 720 P (or less, as a lot of console games are rendered lower and upscaled).

Just look at Crysis 2 on the 360 and PS3, the 360 is just scraping 720p at 30fps I beleive, the PS3 isnt even HD and still struggling to run 30FPS

PC is hardware dependant obviously

Or if your anything like my moron mates, if you have a 1080p TV, then its running in 1080p

Its a shame the GPU's in the consoles are so weak, because the CPU's inside them were well ahead of their time and can give a fast PC Quad core CPU a run for its money today...

Drop an ATI 6xxx or Nvidia 5xx into them, and 720p/1080p with rock solid 60/30fps games would be possible.

If we participate? I havn't seen you participate in it yet .

As for the actual point in the thread, I can't help but agree with Shamikebab, we have atleast one of these threads a week, and nothing has changed since the last one. Because of that I don't really see the point in adding anything on topic.

You would think that with new versions of consoles coming out they would update the hardware a bit at the same time. Like slim versions (example thats diff from original) they might stick in a new gfx card or more ram or somit. As i hear some games like gta 4 has frame rate issues and a bit of an upgrade when they do versions of the consoles out would help with that possibly.

DirectX is not holding back PC at all its the following in no particular order!!!

1: Greedy publishers/developers not prepared to take a chance & make a true PC only game designed around current hardware like DX11 & 1GB + VRam. That alone would produce a stunning looking PC only game but as development costs are so high (guess it would cost around £25-30M+ to make such a high end title) no-one is prepared to gamble as it would be unlikely to turn much of a profit if any (Crysis Warhead cost £22M to make BTW 3 years ago).

2: Lazy developers look to make quick n easy PC ports so obviously most use the code translation tools provided my Intel, Nvidia, MS, AMD which convert console games into PC friendly code. More often than not recently PC gets little extra if anything as no-one appears to want to spend much time/money on giving the PC have even basic features like AA or Vsync.

PC is actually being held back since 2007 by the current gen consoles and as they have another 3-4 years shelf life expect more of the same unfortunately & quite tragically for all high end hardware little will be made which makes much use of it all!

Right now a DX11 PC only game can look jaw dropping & offer a preview of what future gen console games will look like but sadly no-one appears willing to make those games on the PC anytime soon.......

What would be the point? You couldn't release a game that would only run on the newer hardware and if you're designing for the old hardware then the new hardware has no benefit.

Consoles are a fixed spec, remove that and you remove the main benefit of consoles.

Oh and GTA4 runs fine.

Oh and GTA4 runs fine.

Hahahah, that's a good one.

Runs absolute **** on both the ps3 and 360, it's barley playable it feels jumpy at all times and the framerate drops A LOT when it's busy ( eg. c4 explosion in the club in the ballad of gay tony and it drops to about 10 fps and it's already around a crappy 30-40 fps when it's calm.)

Just move your analog stick while driving or look to the side, it's quite clearly VERY jumpy, how can you now notice it, the 360 felt a tad better but was still jumpy and the ps3 is a catastrophe...

While at pc with a decent spec you can play it fine with a pretty solid 50-60 fps, you can drop bombs&grenades everywhere and go mad with the mouse view and it's still super smooth, not to mention it's not such a blurred 720p mess.

You ever looked at a 360/PS3 game up close? Looks like absolute ass.

the only reason the graphics are even passable is because you normally play them at quite a distance from the tv.

I can agree with you Snowdog, even on Crysis 2 last night I was experiencing slowdown on my friends PS3 and I've also noticed it on a few titles now. lol I first seen it in that car game "Full Auto" and that is years old now.

You have to admit that the developers get the games looking damn good for the old hardware they use though. Also games like Call of Duty are pretty smooth on the console although heavily optimized but for running and gunning you don't notice much. I don't own a console but I have been gaming on them at friends homes all my life (periodically of course).

I'm not interested in console gaming although I would like some of the titles on the PC. If I want inferior looking games but just want to have fun then my friends have a visitor :p.

Hurr durr, derp de derp.

Yes, I'm 7 and on my mid-term

Y u mad tho?

Maybe because your reply to someone added nothing to the conversation. Also, bringing quotes from "South Park"!!!!?. Oh how far has humanity fallen.

If you have something worthwhile to say, say it. Just stop the spamming and add something to the conversation. Otherwise there is Youtube.

I don't really understand the details (as this post is about to make clear). I don't understand how my 5 year old xbox can play a game like Black ops at a smooth framerate and good graphics detail yet my 3 1/2 year old just about barely play it on medium at the same resolution and stuggles to stay above a playable framrate. How much would I have to pay to get a PC to play that game to the same standard as an xBox 360 compared to the price of a console?
