****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

I've played for a little over 2 hours on the 3DS.

Which title? :)

It doesn't seem to have a fantastic line up for release but probably enough until mario and zelda.

I'm going to be lazy and ask when is Resident Evil title out?

Counter Edit: Fighters have all ways been a bit of a pain on handhelds, I wouldn't bother to compare it to 360 etc. Controls aside, how did it look and feel? I know you're not a fan of SP games so those last 4 probably won't satisfy your massive competative urge. :p

A question for anyone who has had some hands on experience with one.

Most of the videos and images I have seen so far look quite rough / jaggy, is this due to the fact its running in 2D mode so the image is scaled up to the full 800x240 pixels, rather than the native 400x240 for each eye?

Just wondering if when in 3D mode and not being scaled up it actually looks much sharper, if it is the case I wonder if they are capable of making a native 800x240 resolution for 2D mode since there's extra unused power when not generating the dual images you would think they could up the resolution. I guess that wouldnt work "on the fly" with the slider though and would need changing out of game in the menu or something.

2D images are 400*240 in total.

SSFIV allows you to disable 3D in the menu to get 60fps rather than 30.

The 360 pad is famously bad for fighters and people have tried using it for fighting games, which is why I used it as a reference point. The 3DS is worse than any other hand held because of the stupid dpad position and massive throw on the slide pad.

SSFIV looks fantastic in 3D, although is was cleary running at half the necessary frame rate in that mode. I have got monkey ball (got it for free), ridge racer and rayman as my launch games.

Also, the colour depth is 24-bit now instead of 16-bit. I love monkey ball, will be a blast with my friends.

3D will always half your frame rate due to the tech used. The same is used with Nvidia's 3D solution.

I don't think you understand how the parallax barrier works.

Just to clarify, it DOES NOT halve your perceived fps like the shutter based glasses 3d does. The lower frame rate in SSFIV is because of the extra processing power required to generate the 3D image (twice the number of pixels are used in 3D compared to 2D).

Monkey ball is pretty poor. Even the final levels are easily completed on the first go due to the simplified levels and barriers everywhere.

Yeah, I have no idea why I said that when it's two projected images. -_-

I'll edit it out.

So it's a marble maze game now? :\

I was so disappointed when I heard this. Especially at the fact that they held back magazines etc from reviewing their games until the launch day, very sneaky. How hard can it be to port a 12yr old game!?

Extremely. I would hate to be the bunch of chaps to do that.

Joy. That's 2 duff games I've ordered :P

I might try and return Rayman and get Pilot wings.

Well who knows, it might be a decent port and being slated because it is nothing more...

For what it's worth, I've ordered SSFIV and Pilotwings. But I need something with substance but don't know what.

Star Wars is probably the best bet, just never been in to the lego games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99wPx9YGpuQ

Can't help but feel this thread will be filled with mostly disappointment tomorrow, there doesn't appear to be anything making the 3DS worth buying :/

Shadow Wars is supposed to be good, let's all get that. :)

It's extremely repetitive from what I've read.

Ridge racer seems to be ok, and I enjoy time trials so the lack of multiplayer isn't a huge concern.

It seems like Pilot Wings, Ridge Racer and SSFIV are the only half decent games so far. I'm going to be mostly playing pokemon black on it though as my GF sold her DS Lite for £73 recently.

Lego star wars will be one to keep an eye on.

What are the graphics like on Ridge Racer? They seem quite rough from the screenshots but I understand you can't get anywhere near the full effect of them by looking at static 2D images.
