Meet Rococo - our new pet

I used to have one of these - very cool pet.

Mine unfortunately died one night due to a "bad shed".

Shedded her skin (which they normally eat), but it got stuck over her face and she died :(..

Just a warning - keep an eye on her whilst shedding if you can!

I was also told that mine was male.. and I thought that for about a year, until she laid some eggs :p
You're supposed to provide a shedding box which is basically a margerine tub or similar with some damp sphagnum moss inside. It helps make the skin more supple and easy to come off.

Leopard geckos are great pets though, I managed to successfully hatch about 8 babies using a DIY incubator and sold them to my local exotic pet store. Mind you, the tank was bloody massive so they felt pretty comfortable.

I kept 4 females alongside a male with no fighting whatsoever. The only incident I had was one of the females losing the very tip of her tail due to mistaken identity ! One of the other girls saw her tail twitching just before she was about to pounce on a cricket and mistook it for something edible. They do grow back though but not as pretty as the original.

OP if you need any advice give me a shout, be glad to help :)

Update, found out she was a he. Luckily the names unisex I guess.

Doesn't seem to like eating Mealworms out of a tub so we got rid of them, shame as I know Mealworms are very nutritious. Currently feeding him locusts and waxies. He's eating around 2-3 locusts every 3 days. We give him a treat of a 1 waxworm every week.

He has lost a bit of weight and stopped eating for a bit, but apparently this normal as he did have a pretty fat tail originally.

I would have assumed he would eat more, I know obviously they are cold blooded and don't eat as much as us but max he eats in one night when he is actually actively seeking to OM NOM those locusts is probably 4. They were instar 2/3 when we bought them but I would say they are mostly now 3/4.

5UB or whoever, could you post a close up of your leo's tails please? Just wanna make sure he is not too freaking skinny. (I am pretty sure he is fine though)

If it bulges out a bit he will be fine, they can go quite a while without eating :)

Mine is eating absolutly anything i throw in there, have you tried dubia roaches? you could get a tub of small ones for a couple of quid, and if he likes them set a colony up? :D

Nice gecko, touch plain though ;)

Very cool pets, i've always wanted one that is a really cool morph.

I was also told that mine was male.. and I thought that for about a year, until she laid some eggs :p

I have 2 corn snakes the 'male' of the two has laid eggs a few times, i've even seen him do it which is pretty cool!

Reviving an old thread here (well old ish) how are you getting on with yours? and 5ub how long have you had those?

Just got my viv (unfortunatly had been dropped) and am going to keep a rankins in it :) (inland version of a beardie) I honestly cant wait and when i get the heat sorted ill be popping accross and picking it up :P

anyone got a name? Female btw :) best I can come up with Wispa (and judging by the cats name "pepsi" im rubbish at naming animals)

I'm very tempted to own a lizard myself, the OH isn't keen at all but I'm hoping to turn her around. My local fish shop now has a substantial reptile section so I'm hoping a couple of more visits with the OH will bring her around. These are fascinating creatures.

Mine wasn't really keen at first but I just put my foot down and got one anyway! :)

For some reason he now likes sitting on her head and she doesn't seem to mind him anymore! Shes even got used to my giant snails and asked to hold one the other day and feed him! :D

Although these things are probably because he recognises me from feeding time and because I'm warm to sit on!

just like a gold fish and a cat :) no offence

They're not bad names, but it's obvious you love food.

Well without likeing food i doubt i would be typing right now so yes i suppose i do like it.

Otther than that I just cant think of any names, and im not going with "princess leia" like my friend suggested....
